Your Opportunity:
Working closely with the Director, Human Resources and as a key member of the Human Resources team, the incumbent provides a wide range of payroll and general HR administrative support to the Human Resources team and to clients within the Faculty. Responsibilities include: ensuring the comprehensive and accurate completion of bi-weekly and monthly payroll for casual (over 600 casual biweekly and monthly employees), full-time, part-time unionized staff and non-union staff; ensuring all related pay deadlines are adhered to; and training departmental clients regarding payroll related processes and systems. The Payroll and HR Administrator provides back-up support to the HR Coordinator for all pay processing and benefits administration of academic and administrative employees as required. Duties also include: routine collective agreement and ESA interpretations, providing information about general University HR policies and procedures, answering routine questions and escalating as required. The incumbent also provides administrative support regarding the work study program, compensation, salary administration, labour relations and special projects.

Essential Qualifications:

  • College diploma and courses leading to or completion of PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum two to three years of related experience
  • Experience onlining pay with SAP/HRIS or equivalent software
  • Experience with and sound knowledge of HR and Payroll policies, procedures and processes, including the Employment Standards Act, preferably in a unionized environment
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office software including Excel and other software applications
  • Mathematical and numerical aptitude is essential
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with a variety of people and inquiries in a calm and professional manner
  • Strong organizational skills are imperative
  • Demonstrated and proactive customer service orientation with an awareness, and sensitivity to, diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Accuracy and an attention to detail and to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Experience in reception/front line service, good judgment and demonstrated initiative;
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; effectively deal with multiple and changing priorities; able to undertake prompt, appropriate action to correct inaccuracies.
