Who You\'ll Work With
The Payroll and Benefits Manager reports directly to the Sr. HR Business Partner. The role interfaces with multiple business leaders to troubleshoot escalated payroll issues and will communicate directly with employees to address their pay questions or concerns. The Payroll and Benefits Manager will also interact with external stakeholders as required and manage CloudMD\xe2\x80\x99s benefits provider to ensure a high level of satisfaction across the organization.
What You\'ll Be Doing
The Payroll and Benefits Manager plays a key role the HR department\xe2\x80\x99s leadership team in developing a comprehensive payroll and benefits strategy for a fast-growing organization. Reporting to the Sr. HR Business Partner, the role oversees the full-cycle payroll for multiple entities and manages the daily payroll activities. The Payroll and Benefits Manager will also have a significant role in leading the centralization of payroll services and implementing a company-wide payroll system. This is a great opportunity for a payroll professional looking to take the next step in their career. Specifically the Payroll and Benefits Manager will:

  • Oversee the full payroll cycle for multiple entities; review and validate payroll balances and tax remittances per legislative requirements before processing payments to ensure pay is administered accurately and on time
  • Prepare and review payroll account reconciliations and maintain accurate account balances
  • Lead the payroll year-end process and reporting of T4 and T4A
  • Establish appropriate controls to ensure compliance with payroll processes and legislative requirements are met, including developing and enforcing payroll guidelines and procedures
  • Maintain the benefits portal and provide recommendations for improvements on the company\xe2\x80\x99s benefits programs
  • Review and reconcile monthly group benefit premium statements, reconcile LTD and optional life/critical illness premium, and Life/AD&D taxable benefits
  • Set up payroll departments to be consistent with the Company\xe2\x80\x99s internal reporting requirements
  • Identify and provide solutions for potential payroll problems and/or concerns, streamline processes, and create operational efficiencies
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies and payroll issues promptly
  • Prepare relevant weekly, monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports, and provide payroll analysis reports to the management team as required
  • Lead and proactively prepare for internal and external payroll/benefit audits as required
  • Lead and participate in planned and ad hoc projects focusing on automation, enhancements and new program roll out related to payroll and benefits
  • Responsible for any changes with the payroll system configuration to support the administration of Payroll
  • Support the Sr. HR Business Partner in change managements initiatives as it results from the centralization of the organization\xe2\x80\x99s payroll and benefits programs
  • Assist the management team and Finance in the budgeting and forecasting process
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation and ensure that timely reporting and payment of all payroll requirements by provincial and federal agencies (CRA, WSIB, WCB, EHT, etc.)
  • Assist Finance and Corporate with payroll-related information for public company reporting requirements
  • Participate in acquisition, consolidation, and other initiatives as needed
  • Support fostering a culture of continuous improvement, enhanced controls and data integrity

What You Need to Be Successful
  • Minimum of PCP designation is required
  • 10 \xe2\x80\x93 15 years of experience processing Canadian (multiple provinces) payroll
  • 3-5 years of experience in a leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of federal and provincial/state regulations, Employee Standard Act;
  • Working knowledge of multiple payroll systems and experience with process improvement and implementing HRMS/payroll system
  • Familiarity with equity payroll transactions such as stock options
  • This is a remote role that will require the successful candidate to have access to a home office environment with a reliable internet connection

What You Need to Stand Out
  • Experience processing US payroll is an asset
  • CPP designation is an asset
  • CPM designation is preferred
