Position Overview

Creates a safe and secure environment for patients, staff and the visiting public within buildings and property of the Health Sciences Centre (HSC).

Utilizes and enforces federal, provincial, and municipal legislation/policies to ensure the delivery and access of healthcare.

Responsible for the detection and prosecution of unlawful acts as well as the enforcement of hospital policies and regulations.

Primary responder for a variety of hospital contingencies/codes including violent incidents and fire alarms.

Assists medical staff with a variety of situations relating but not limited to, violent persons/patients, weapon seizures, room/ward searches, or removal of unauthorized individuals from property.

Directs and assists visitors throughout the facility, including staff/visitor escorts to parkades.

Maintains accurate record of activities while on duty and ensuring that accurate and complete incident reports are completed when required.

Provides a high level of customer service while dealing with individuals of all ages and backgrounds.

Experience

Minimum of one (1) year of security experience, law enforcement or military background, or a related field.

Prior security experience is preferred.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

Completion of a high school education, or equivalent.

Valid Manitoba Security Guard License (at time of application) and/or any future license mandated by the province to perform the duties of a Security Guard.

Diploma/Degree from a recognized education facility specializing in security or law enforcement preferred.

Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification or any other certification related to law enforcement preferred.

Qualifications and Skills

Ability to readily adapt to stressful situations while using discretion and good judgement.

Must be fluent in the English language due to the high level of communication skills needed in this position.

Physical Requirements

Meet physical fitness requirements for patrol officer duties, which include but are not limited to, walking/running, going up and down stairs, assisting in violent hands-on situations and includes the ability to work at extreme heights to support the Heliport operation.

Good physical and mental health required.

Position requires a considerable amount of walking and the physical ability to restrain or evict unauthorized individuals.

Ability to perform activities that include pre-landing heliport inspections and assisting law enforcement with patient off-loads.
