The Emergency Department (ED) of the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH)/Stollery Children\'s Hospital sees approximately 123,000 patients (adults & pediatric) per year. The UAH/Stollery ED is an accredited, academic, research and teaching program. The ED is a designated tertiary trauma site, both for pediatric and adult patients. The UAH/Stollery ED also supports critical and serious cases from Northern Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and the NWT. This position reports to the Executive Director, UAH/EZ Medicine Program and UAH/Stollery ED. This is a challenging and exciting opportunity for an individual to join the UAH/Stollery ED as Patient Care Manager (PCM). The incumbent will work with multi-disciplinary teams and must be able to operationalize processes to support best practice in the delivery of excellent care to patients. The PCM, is accountable and responsible for participating in strategic planning and identifying budget requirements (human, material, and capital resources) to safely meet patient needs. This is accomplished by managing the resources, operations, utilization, and quality improvement activities for the emergency department. The PCM is also responsible for establishing and maintaining an effective framework for the efficient day to day operations of the patient care areas in order to facilitate the delivery of efficient, effective and safe patient care. The PCM is accountable for the hiring of staff and evaluating the performance of professional and ancillary staff. The PCM maintains collaborative working relationships and facilitates the implementation of changes to structure and processes in order to accomplish improved outcomes in patient satisfaction, quality of care and cost containment. The PCM works in a decision-making and accountability dyad with the Clinical Department Facility Chiefs of the UAH/Stollery ED.

Required Qualifications:

BScN or a post-secondary degree in a related field is required with at least three years\' experience in a management role in a health care setting. Strong leadership skills combined with the ability to motivate and promote a positive environment that is open to change, new approaches to care, and the organization of services is essential. Must be eligible for registration with the appropriate professional association.

Equivalences of education and experience may be considered. Recent Emergency management experience preferred.
