Position Profile:



Perform gross description and dissection of surgical tissues removed for microscopic interpretation, which includes selection, preparation and submittal of samples for histologic examination. Assist in autopsy services to setup and perform postmortem examinations. Assist in the teaching of pro-section of various organs as required to pathology residents and rotating medical students. Interact with the operating room staff and clinics regarding the submission of tissue specimens for processing. Coordinate the temporary storage, retention and disposal of tissue specimens. Working knowledge of laboratory safety precautions and hygiene. Perform other functions necessary for providing anatomic pathology services. This Unity Health position may require assisting at both the St. Joseph's Health Centre and St. Michael's Hospital Pathology sites, dependent on need.

Qualifications:



Master's Degree in a recognized Pathology Assistant program required. Prior Pathologists' Assistant experience (one to two years) preferred. Proficient with MS Office, email, internet, voice recognition software and digital photography. Excellent organization, interpersonal, communication, problem solving and analytical skills. Must be able to work effectively and independently in a team environment. Satisfactory attendance record as per the Health Centre's Attendance Management Program Policy SJ-08-01-08.
