Cambrian College's School of Community Services requires part-time professors to teach within the Indigenous Studies programs and courses beginning January and May 2026.


Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidates will be invited to teach one or more sections of the following Indigenous Studies courses:



Indigenous Business Economics (Barrydowne/Online) Indigenous Business Workshop (Barrydowne/Online) Indigenous Arts & Film (Barrydowne) Sports & Reconciliation (Kenjgewin Teg / M'Chigeeng)

Qualifications

Required:





Postsecondary degree in Indigenous Studies and/or fields of study related to the identified course area(s) (a copy of educational documents must be submitted with application education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES or ICAS with their application).
Demonstrated commitment, respect, and knowledge of traditional Indigenous cultures and heritages of Turtle Island and lived experience within an Indigenous context, whether in an Indigenous community or urban environment, with an understanding of Indigenous culture, traditions, teaching, and ceremonies. Ability to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others and function effectively within a team environment. Ability to provide leadership and mentorship and be an effective role model in the classroom. Ability to utilize creative teaching approaches and current and emerging teaching and learning strategies to enhance student success. Demonstrated ability to use a variety of educational technologies, including in-class media presentation systems, learning management systems, and other relevant classroom technologies. Ability to work with students from diverse educational, religious, and cultural backgrounds. Solid commitment to students and education. Excellent written communication skills and exceptional interpersonal skills. Strong computer literacy and effective critical thinking and organizational skills.


Additional Assets/Preferred:



Previous teaching experience at the postsecondary level. Master's degree or PhD.

To prioritize Indigenous voices in teaching, Cambrian College is in the process of formulating a procedure on confirmation of Indigenous identity. As an interim step, applicants who make the "short list" of candidates and who self-identify as Indigenous will be asked to confirm their Indigenous identity. This will be done by asking the applicant to furnish the following:

The name and location Indigenous Nation or community to which the applicant belongs*
In the absence of naming an Indigenous Nation, a detailed statement of self-declaration outlining lived experiences, ongoing connections to a contemporary Indigenous Nation or community, and a statement of how the applicant or the applicant's family came to lose their connection to a contemporary Indigenous Nation or community.*

Applicants will be encouraged, but not required, to provide any documentation that they have verifying their Indigenous identity. Examples include membership / citizenship cards or letters of confirmation or support from Indigenous Nations. Applicants may be asked to provide community references to assist in confirmation of Indigenous Identity. All information will be held in confidence.
