Job Title: Part-Time Pharmacist
Location: Vibrance Pharmacy
Position Type: Part-Time
SUMMARY
The Pharmacist is responsible for providing a full scope of pharmacy services, including consultation to patients, customers and medical practitioners. The Pharmacist will also provide guidance and supervision to Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Students and Staff, ensuring that patients receive professional services in adherence with pharmacy standards.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible to practice to the full scope of pharmacy practice
Adhere to federal/provincial, regulatory/legal requirements, provincial Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice, and Policies, demonstrating professional integrity and acting to uphold a high level of professional standard of practice
Ensure all privacy requirements are met, including patient confidentiality and consent management
Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and ensure patient confidentiality is maintained
Accurately review and dispense prescriptions to ensuring to evaluate their suitability for the patient
Safely and appropriately delegate technical functions to Pharmacy Technicians when available
Maintain all records as required in accordance with legislation, standards of practice, and policy, i.e. patient records, narcotic and controlled drug records
Create and update medication management plans, follow up, and documentation as required
Collect relevant patient, medication and disease information
Identification of and reporting as appropriate of actual and potential drug related problems
Monitor patient adherence to medication, counselling as appropriate
Counsel patients regarding prescriptions, over the counter/behind the counter products and health related issues, including but not limited to indications, contra-indications, adverse effects, drug interactions, dosage and appropriate storage and care
Provide patient counselling for new therapy, tailoring counselling to the needs, ability and concerns of the patient, being mindful of barriers to effective communication
Collaborate and communicate with other health care professionals to provide optimal patient care
Compounding medications as prescribed, by calculating, weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients
Planning, implementing or maintaining procedures for mixing, packaging and labelling medication according to policy and legal requirements to ensure quality, security and proper disposal
Ordering and purchasing pharmaceutical supplies, medical supplies, or drugs
Maintaining stock and storing and handling it properly
Analyzing prescribing trends to monitor patient compliance and to prevent excessive usage or harmful interactions
Advising patients on the selection of medication brands, medical equipment or healthcare supplies

Demonstrate warmth and compassion towards patients, and fellow staff

TECHNICAL SKILLS
Above average communication skills (both oral and written)

JOB DEMANDS
The regular requirements and demands of this job include (but are not limited to):
Occasionally lifts objects less than 10 lbs
Regularly stands or walks when performing activities
Constantly uses fine finger/precision work using hand tools; visual concentration is required to read and interpret prescriptions, calculate dosages, ensure medications are dispensed properly, read clinical studies, drug monographs, and to inspect and check medication amounts/preparations
A high level of alertness and concentration is required to do this work
Works under tight time pressures with an unpredictable work pace
- Familiarity with dispensing and billing compounded medications (preferred)
Requirements:
-Licensed to practice as a pharmacist with ACP (Alberta College of Pharmacists)
-Injection certification (required)
-Kroll experience (required)
-Strong clinical skills (asset)
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
