Sphinx Healing Services is a trauma-informed group care program supporting high-risk Indigenous youth aged 0-18. Our work is grounded in cultural safety, healing, and community connection.
Position Summary:
We are currently seeking an Elder to join our team part-time and support the youth in our care. The Elder will offer guidance, cultural teachings, and traditional knowledge, helping youth reconnect with their identity, culture, and sense of belonging. This role is essential in fostering healing, pride, and cultural continuity within our home.
The ideal Elder will have strong ties to Indigenous communities, deep roots in cultural knowledge, and the ability to provide support in a trauma-informed, respectful, and safe manner.
Key Responsibilities:
Attend the home a couple of days per week to engage with youth
Share Indigenous-focused teachings, stories, customs, and traditions
Lead or support cultural ceremonies and land-based practices when appropriate
Support youth in reconnecting to who they are, where they come from, and what they believe in
Provide mentorship, listening, and encouragement through an Indigenous worldview
Collaborate with the care team to promote holistic wellness and culturally safe care
Practice all teachings and interactions through a trauma-informed, compassionate lens
Qualifications & Qualities:
Recognized as an Elder or Knowledge Keeper within your community
Strong ties to Indigenous communities and cultural practices
Deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and spiritual teachings
Experience supporting Indigenous youth in care or similar settings
Comfortable facilitating teachings, sharing stories, and guiding cultural practices
Compassionate, reliable, and approachable presence
Able to maintain boundaries and confidentiality in a care setting
Committed to providing support in a trauma-informed and culturally grounded way
