ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking an enthusiastic Core French educator to inspire curiosity and confidence in French language and culture for students in Grades 1-5. You will design engaging, inquiry-driven lessons that build listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while connecting to transdisciplinary IB themes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan & Deliver Curriculum
- Facilitate age-appropriate units aligned to the Ontario Core French curriculum (Grades 1-5) and PYP approaches to learning.
Assessment
- Use Growing Success (2010) and IB assessment practices to provide Assessment
FOR, AS, and OF
Learning; record evidence in Edsby.
Language & Culture Integration
- Incorporate music, stories, games, and cultural celebrations (e.g., Carnaval, Francophonie Week) to foster engagement.
Differentiation & Inclusion
- Scaffold for diverse language levels and learning needs; promote a supportive, risk-free environment for oral practice.
Collaboration
- Partner with classroom teachers to infuse French into transdisciplinary units and school-wide events; contribute to a lunchtime French Club or similar co-curricular offering.
Professional Growth
- Participate in IB/PYP training and whole-school PD.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) with French as a Second Language qualifications preferred
Demonstrated success teaching Core French to elementary-age students
Strong oral and written French proficiency (minimum CEFR C1)
Current Standard First Aid & CPR and clear vulnerable-sector police check
Nice to have: Experience in IB or inquiry-based environments o DELF/DALF examiner certification o Edsby or similar LMS proficiency o Ability to integrate digital media (e.g., Flip, Book Creator) into language learning
