Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
The Integrated Professional Practicum for Registered Nurse Prescribers [RN (P)s] prepares nurses working in their area of clinical competence (employer designated area) to prescribe in collaboration with a Nurse Practitioner or Physician. Students will complete a minimum of 150 hours in a supervised clinical practicum experience in their workplace. This experience will enable RN students to further develop their knowledge and skills related to the prescribing process under the direct supervision of licensed prescribers (Nurse Practitioners or Physicians). The supervised clinical practicum will further develop and consolidate learners' competence and confidence to prescribe in a specific clinical practice area and within a legal, ethical, and professional framework for accountability and responsibility for the care they provide. The course faculty will work with the student and their preceptors to ensure the student is meeting the objectives of the course and is deemed competent to carry out RN prescribing in the context designated on admission to the certificate program.
Clinical practicum is supplemented by online (asynchronous) learning. NSH to provide precepted clinical experience with physicians and Nurse Practitioners in designated learner areas.
The appointment for this 3-credit course runs from September 1 until December 31, 2025. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Graduate Studies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Development of teaching and learning activities related to course-specific topics
Teach course content
Assessment and evaluation of student learning
Use of Brightspace for course delivery
Responding to student queries about coursework
Attending initial instruction with Instructional Learning Online services re: Brightspace
Participation in course discussions within the program
Develop and administer examinations
Submission of grades
Follow up with students as necessary
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
Candidates must hold a graduate degree in Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) and be licensed to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in Nova Scotia. Prior teaching experience an asset. PhD preferred.
