1022.03: Introduction to

Arabic II

, Tuesday/Thursday, 14:35-15:55, Winter Term (January 2026- April 2026). The successful candidate will be fully responsible for both teaching the class content and assessing the students' progress (through in-class evaluation, marking assignments, tests, and the final exam, and granting the final grades). They will be available to students during office hours. The position is supervised by the Chair, Department of Classics with Arabic and Religious Studies.

ARBC 1022 is an introductory Arabic language class, the continuation of ARBC 1021 taught in the Fall term; students enrolled in ARBC 1022 already know the Arabic alphabet (can write and read with complete vocalization), have basic notions of grammar and vocabulary. The teacher will take them to the next level of the introductory stage, by adding new grammatical structures, verb conjugation (at the present and future tenses), and richer vocabulary, conversational skills, etc., introduced in the second part of the textbook, "Mastering Arabic I" (by Jane Wightwick and Mahmoud Gaafar, 2015 edition).


Qualifications/Requirements of Position


Applicants are expected to have a high command of Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) - including written and oral aspects, vocabulary, and conversation in this linguistic variety - attested through a Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Arabic Language or at least a Minor in Arabic Studies with focus on linguistic aspects of MSA. Applicants are expected to have previous experience in teaching Arabic language at the university level (to non-native speakers).
