Supporting Future Focused Education and program development, the Program Innovation Hub (PIH) is a key driver in the development of new academic programs and enhancement of current programs at the University of Calgary. The PIH brings together experts from units across campus to provide coordinated support for program development from ideation and feasibility to proposal development and approval. As a core member of the team, the Partner, Program Innovation provides strategic guidance and direction to faculties and units as they develop new program proposals.
Operating within the university and provincial guidelines and established governance systems, the Partner, Program Innovation is responsible for solving complex issues in relation to program development and innovation projects, often across multiple units and faculties, and for facilitating and supporting multiple proposals at various stages from inception to completion. Reporting to the Vice Provost (Academic Strategy & Planning), this position impacts a wide range of operational and project activities within the program innovation team, as well as related teams and units across campus. As a result, this position requires a high degree of tact and diplomacy to balance support and leadership in the program proposal development process.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
(job functions include but are not limited to):
Provide strategic guidance and direction to faculties and units as they develop new program proposals.
Serve as the primary liaison to faculties and units on the process, government and institutional requirements and timelines for new program proposal development.
Provide project management and guidance regarding the development and approval of program proposals.
Liaise with units across campus to ensure timely and accurate information sharing, proposal approval processes and timelines.
Undertake research and analysis as needed to support the program proposal requirements, including inventory of similar programs offered at other institutions, labour market analysis etc.
Provide input, advice and guidance in the development of the program budget.
Provide strategic advice and assistance in the preparation of the program proposal and review final proposals prior to them advancing to the approvals process.
Serve as a key advisor within the Program Innovation Hub.
Provide input and recommendations in the development of new frameworks and improvements in policies and procedures to support program innovation activities.
Provide advice and guidance to Faculty proponents with respect to institutional and Alberta Advanced Education expectations for content of program approvals, including standards for enrolment projections, budgeting, presentation of comparisons to programs at other institutions, and labour market analyses.
Develop, coordinate, and lead workshops related to program development and innovation.
Work with the Provost's Office, especially supporting the Analyst, Planning and Reviews, with the coordination of administrative processes for the program proposal process including reviewing and editing proposals, supporting documents, program proposal templates and communication documents.
Oversee updates to the Program Innovation Hub website.
Keep up to date and accurate records as needed and in alignment with the University's policies and practices.
Qualifications / Requirements:
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree; Master's degree strongly preferred.
5-7 years' experience in a related capacity.
Expert knowledge of best practices in program innovation and the intersection with other areas on campus.
Knowledge of program development legislation and the University's approval policies and practices.
Prior experience in contributing to development and design of procedures and policies to meet with current and emerging needs.
Advanced ability to research, collect and interpret data for the purpose of supporting program proposals.
Outstanding interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills for both internal and external audiences.
Strong critical thinking, judgment and decision-making skills.
Excellent record keeping skills with keen attention to detail and focus on accuracy.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and with a diverse team.
Demonstrated strong project management, organizational and planning skills with the ability to establish priorities, manage multiple demands and meet deadlines.
Experience with budgeting and data and market analyses.
Demonstrated collaborative approach, proven in building connections across units/departments.
Demonstrated ability to undertake effective professional interactions through engaging, respecting, supporting and listening.
Demonstrated ability to use initiative, creativity and innovation in work practices.
Knowledge of document retention rules.
