Located near Yonge and Dundas, Mint Music is on the lookout for a professional, gigging musician to join our growing teaching staff, who brings a minimum of 5 years of performing and teaching experience and is comfortable working with a diverse range of students of varying backgrounds, ages and abilities.
The ideal candidate will possess a thorough knowledge of a wide variety of musical genres and will take great pride and care in the quality of their instruction. Responsibilities and Duties
Create an inspiring and positive learning environment for all lessons, classes, bands and workshops that you instruct.
Follow verbal instructions, emails and memos from school director and administration staff, attend bi-annual staff meetings, our school concerts the occur 3x per year and occasional one on one discussions with the school director, sharing your feedback and suggestions regarding school procedures, programming, school supplies and new equipment purchases when asked.
As we are a performance based school every instructor is expected to prepare and encourage every student to participate at our end of term school concerts, performances along with RCM exams and competitions if requested by the student or parent.
Take daily attendance, making lesson notes and assign student homework using MyMusicStaff software
Create structured customized lesson plans and goals for each student to keep them consistently engaged and motivated.
Be flexible and quick to modify your lesson plans and approach as needed based on feedback you receive from your students, parents, school admin staff or school director.
Provide periodic progress updates for students or administration upon request
Write clear and concise lesson notes, create and share recordings, professional music charts and other relevant supportive materials to student, band, class, admin staff and substitute teachers when necessary.
Communicate with administration and students in a timely manner when attendance, scheduling or other issues arise so that problems can be resolved quickly.
Most shifts are taught weekday afternoons from Monday to Friday between the hours of 3 PM to 9 PM in the evening or if you wish to work weekends the weekend shifts are as follows: Saturdays from 10 AM to 4 PM in the afternoon or Sundays from 1 - 5 PM in the afternoon or 5 - 9 PM in the evenings on a set schedule to be determined upon employment.
Qualifications and Skills
A proven track record of providing Voice Lessons for all ages from beginner to advanced level.
Adept at creating professional charts and supplemental teaching materials for bands, ensembles, workshops and guitar classes.
Exceptional listening and verbal communication skills.
Detail oriented and strong organizational skills required.
Outgoing and confident personality in teaching private lessons, bands, group classes and workshops.
A proven track record of high student retention in previous teaching positions
Able to teach voice to all levels of players.
We are especially interested in someone who is an expert at refining people's belting voice.
Familiarity with and playing proficiency in most popular music genres
Advanced sight reading skills for accompanying students and playing repertoire.
A team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent creative problem-solving abilities and a can do attitude.
Post-Secondary diploma or degree; At least 5 years teaching experience.
Experienced, outgoing and confident in teaching adults, children and teens in private lessons, group classes, bands and workshop settings.
As an independent contractor you will be responsible for submitting your invoices to the school office that are processed on a monthly basis.
Preferred Skills
Additional teachable on piano is especially wanted and in demand.
Experience with sound editing and recording equipment (e.g. mixing consoles) is a plus.
Working knowledge of recording software and hardware (e.g. Pro Tools) is also helpful.
