Based in Whitehorse, this position will manage the SS Klondike National Historic Site located on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dun First Nation and the Ta\xe2\x80\x99an Kwach\xe2\x80\x99an Council, and the world-renowned Chilkoot Trail National Historic Site located on the traditional lands of the Carcross/Tagish and Taku River Tlingit First Nations. Working collaboratively with First Nations, government and tourism partners, the Site Manager is responsible for the protection and presentation of the cultural and natural heritage of these two historic sites.

As the site manager, you will be responsible for building and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with Indigenous governments, other governments, partners, stakeholders, and non-governmental organizations. As a management team member, you will be managing, developing, and coaching a multi-disciplinary team of 5 direct reports, and a broader team of 12 full-time equivalent positions. You will also be managing a goods and services budget of $0.5M and a salary and wage envelope of $1.9M.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized university in a specialization in a field relevant to the position OR an acceptable combination of education, training and experience Degree equivalency
EXPERIENCE
  • Experience managing natural or cultural resource conservation and tourism and recreation programs
  • Experience working with Indigenous partners and various types and levels of government to develop relationships, reach agreements and make decisions
  • Experience providing strategic advice and recommendations on complex* issues to senior managers and partner organizations
  • Experience managing and developing staff, managing budgets and strategic work planning

  • Complex issues are defined as issues with two (2) or more of the following characteristics:
  • multi-jurisdictional;
  • sensitive and/or confidential;
  • affecting relationships with partner organizations;
  • precedent setting; or
  • having potential for media coverage.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the incumbent to:
  • travel, including overnight, off site, work irregular hours, overtime, weekends, and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required.
  • work from various locations.
  • wear a Parks Canada uniform as per the Parks Canada uniform policy and prescribed protective equipment.

  • Possess and maintain a valid Yukon Class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s license or equivalent
  • Must undergo and pass pre-placement and periodic medical checks (when position is located in an area classed as isolated and remote, a pre-employment medical examination of an individual and his/her dependants may be required)
