Job Description

Brazeau County is looking for enthusiastic and responsible individuals to join our

Parks Maintenance

team for the summer months. This position offers four months of employment from May to August, with a great work life balance of evenings and most weekends off, including paid statutory holidays. Our summer staff work forty hours per week, receive job and safety training, and are provided with personal protective equipment.

If you enjoy working outside and find it satisfying to complete grounds maintenance, this may be a great fit for you. Our parks crew works in a team environment and at times independently with minimal supervision. You are comfortable to learn and operate light equipment, have time management skills, and possess a valid driver's license.

Primary duties include cleaning parks and recreational facilities, inspecting playgrounds, vegetation control, and requires the operation of light equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



Perform maintenance of parks and recreational facilities: Cleaning cook houses and out houses Minor repairs to playground equipment Painting Inspect playground areas and equipment for risk and safety hazards Perform vegetation control activities: Grass Mowing Weed cutting/pulling Pesticide application Haul equipment to various worksites and safely operate equipment Maintain equipment and perform minor repairs Identify and report all necessary repairs, malfunctions, or maintenance problems to the supervisor and ensure they are addressed Maintain activity records, logs and reports for programs under their responsibility To undertake any other reasonable duty, commensurate with the classification and responsibility of the position, across the department in order to meet service priorities and business continuity requirements. May be required in the event of a municipal emergency to support the emergency operations centre and incident action/recovery plan.

COMPETENCY AREAS:



Education/Training:

Currently pursuing post-secondary education is considered an asset.

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Licenses/Certifications/Designation:

Valid Class 5 Driver's License

Clean Driver's Abstract

Pesticide applicator certificate in Agriculture, Industrial and Landscaping an asset, but not required

Experiences/Knowledge/Skills:

Must be 18 years of age or older

Ability to perform physical labour

Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision

Familiarity in agriculture and experience with operating light equipment is an asset

Effective communication skills and ability to interact with many different individuals in a professional manner

Ability to follow precise instructions

Mechanical aptitude is an asset

Computer software experience using GIS/GPS, Office 365 and web based reporting programs

Overtime and weekend work will be required when necessary.

Successful candidate must be able to work for the entire period of the position.

Compensation and Classification:

Temporary (Maximum Five Months Duration)

Work Period from May to August

Forty Hours Per Week; Monday to Friday

Union Grid 1 $23.38 to $27.30 per hour
