Position: Parking Enforcement Officer- No Security License Required

Division: Oak Bay Parking
Shift times: 0800 - 1500- On-call/Casual Backup
Hourly Wage: $18.50- Union

DEFINITION

The Parking Enforcement Officer works under the direction of the Director of Financial Services for Oak Bay. The Parking Enforcement Officer is responsible for investigating parking complaints, and to proactively enforce the District\xe2\x80\x99s Streets and Traffic by-law.

The Parking Enforcement Officer is expected to be courteous and engaging in their behaviours while being knowledgeable in all aspects of municipal by-laws relating to parking.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Acknowledge, educate, and engage with members of the general public who contact the District to request services in relation to parking issues and concerns.
  • Issue Parking Offence Notices and warning tickets.
  • Perform clerical and administrative duties as assigned.
  • Properly document activities and complaints in Tempest.
  • Accountable for the safekeeping and upkeep of equipment and material issued and under their care.
  • Work collaboratively with members of the District of Oak Bay to enhance the District\xe2\x80\x99s community engagement philosophy and initiatives as they relate to parking issues and concerns.
  • Work collaboratively with Oak Bay By-Law and other relevant outside agencies relating to parking issues and concerns.
  • Attend court when and as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
  • A sound knowledge of District parking by-law and Motor Vehicle Act as it relates to parking issues.
  • A working knowledge of TONs and MTIs.
  • Knowledge of standard office procedures and practices, such as document and file management and business communication protocols.
  • A clear understanding of the rules and regulations regarding the use of Oak Bay Ticket Information Utilization By-Law.
  • Ability to work within a database environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with the public tactfully and courteously under a variety of circumstances.
  • Ability to work independently in the absence of direct supervision.
REQUIRED STANDARDS
  • Possess a valid class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s license.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to adhere to the core values of the District of Oak Bay.
  • Adherence to policies, standard operating procedures, and departmental rules and regulations of the District of Oak Bay.
  • Completion of grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Completion of all in-service training as required.
  • Maintain the performance level set by the District and Commissionaires in the execution of all duties and responsibilities.
