Work in North America\'s largest urban park, known as the "Ribbon of Green". You\'ll contribute to ensuring a safe and enjoyable co-existence between the valley\'s plants, wildlife and ten million annual visitors in Edmonton\'s 48 kilometers of river valley. As a Park Ranger you are responsible to:

  • Ensure the protection, condition and safety of buildings and amenities on City parkland
  • Interact with a variety of individuals while ensuring a safe and enjoyable co-existence between the valley\'s precious natural resources
  • Respond to Homeless encampment complaints and engaging vulnerable and unhoused populations living in encampment settings.
  • Partner with various stakeholder agencies and outreach programs to support vulnerable and unhoused population living in encampment settings.
  • Receive complaints regarding violations of City bylaws; conducting investigations to determine their validity and issuing verbal/written warnings or tickets
  • Conduct routine park patrol and investigative assignments Interpret legislation and bylaws to the public; provide assistance in the prosecution of bylaw or statute breeches, and prepare court documents
  • Coordinate, develop, and implement actions to protect the bio-diversity of parkland; provide resource management to ensure sustainable use of parkland
  • Assist with the development of parks brochures, informational presentations, letters, and reports for internal and external customers; develop and implement special events; conduct media interviews
  • Write reports, vehicle inspections and activity logs
  • Operate various transportation vehicles and equipment, including jet boats, ATVs and mountain bikes.

Qualifications:
  • Completion of a 2 year Diploma in Conservation Enforcement, Parks Management, Resource Management, Police Studies or Law Enforcement
  • A minimum of 1 year directly related experience
  • Obtain and retain Community Peace Officer Level I Provincial Designation from Alberta Justice with completion of the Community Peace Officer Induction Program (CPOIP), as well as a Bylaw officer appointment
  • Must be able to obtain or have successfully completed the Physical Abilities Readiness Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) within 4 minutes and 45 seconds (4:45)
  • Standard First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications
  • Must be able to obtain and retain boat operators license
  • Ability to work in physically demanding and sometimes dangerous environments
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, SAP, and Google Suite
  • Completion of Verbal Judo, Search & Rescue Fundamentals and Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT) training are assets
  • Extensive knowledge of municipal legislation, investigative practices and customer service standards\xcd\xbe must be able to effectively communicate interpretations of legislation
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers\xcd\xbe excellent interpersonal, time management, customer service and communication skills required
  • Knowledge and practical application of dealing with difficult persons\xcd\xbe strong analytical, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to prepare and deliver presentations to groups, eg. Educational & Trail Campaigns
  • Hire is dependent Upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s licence (or provincial equivalent). Eligible to obtain and retain a City Driver\xe2\x80\x99s Permit
  • Demonstrated experience in Parks, Conservation, Wildlife management and/or dealing with vulnerable and unhoused populations is considered an asset
