Park & Facility Maintainer

Job Description

The Park & Facility Maintainer will be responsible for completing facility and ice maintenance, building repairs, general cleaning, set-up for events and maintaining our outdoor public areas including parks, playgrounds, splash pad and sports fields.

Reporting To:

Facility Supervisor or Parks Supervisor

Responsibilities:



1. Maintain outdoor public areas including but not limited to municipal parks and playgrounds, sports fields, beachfront, washrooms, skate parks, boardwalk, and bike parks

2. Tour parks and facilities to identify problems and take corrective actions

3. Inspect playgrounds, the Bike Park, and the pier to identify hazards and take corrective actions

4. Support outdoor special events by moving and setting up picnic tables, garbage cans, bleachers, and other items as required by the event organizers

5. Open and close public washrooms daily and ensure cleanliness, functionality, and stock of supplies

6. Maintain boardwalks, gazebos, fountains, walkways, piers, and picnic shelters

7. Complete general outdoor maintenance of public areas as required - i.e. pick-up garbage, paint surfaces, cut and trim grass, clear tree debris, lay sod, complete minor carpentry work

8. Install and remove ice surface and complete ice maintenance including driving the ice resurface equipment to flood ice surfaces to a specified thickness on a specific schedule

9. Complete minor maintenance to tools and equipment - i.e. change oil, lubricate parts, change blades, charge batteries

10. Maintain inside and outside municipal facilities - i.e. general cleaning of all areas, stock supplies, cut grass, clear snow, spread salt or sand, pick-up garbage, lock/unlock meeting rooms, log specific equipment readings, etc.

11. Set up and take down tables, chairs, and other equipment for a variety of functions

12. Respond to questions and concerns from the public, giving out information and resolving problems

13. Assist with the security of building and patrons

14. Provide guidance to seasonal and student staff as required

15. Follow emergency procedures to provide support to the public during crises

16. Ensure the health and safety of workers and members of the public around work areas

17. Comply with Municipality of Kincardine policies and procedures

18. Perform other tasks as assigned by management

Education & Experience Requirements:



Post- secondary education and/or industry related experience Minimum 3 years of experience in related duties Previous experience in sports field turf and ball diamond infield maintenance Previous experience in irrigation maintenance and repair, including splash pad operation and outdoor water system winterization Completion of Basic Refrigeration and experience in ice maintenance would be considered an asset A valid CPSI or OPA playground inspection certification is considered an asset Grower Pesticide Safety Course certification is considered an asset Possess a valid G license and a clean driving record

Required Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:



Knowledge of procedures and practices to maintain facilities and public spaces Knowledge of the CAN/CSA-Z614 standards related to playground equipment and repair Ability to work safely and take initiative Willingness to learn Excellent customer service skills with ability to deal tactfully and politely with the public Ability to work independently and as an effective member of a team Must be physically capable of manual labour A demonstrated work history that highlights teamwork and a positive attitude

Employment Information:



Contract Position - Expected to be 6 Month Duration 40 Hours per Week Work schedule will vary - day, evening, and weekend shifts will be required Group 5 (Step 1 $28.01/hr - Step 5 $35.01/hr) Completion of a Police Check with an Acceptable Result is a condition of employment
