This position is a term from June to January. This is an hourly position (up to full-time hours) with varied shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
The Opportunity
The Park Event Assistant ("PEA") is part of the team responsible for the successful implementation of all Community & Special events at APC. The Park Event Assistants provide support at all event bookings throughout Assiniboine Park and the Zoo. Events take place in a variety of indoor and outdoor locations, such as the Zoo, Leo Mol Sculpture Garden, Event tent(s), the Duck Pond, The Leaf and Outdoor Gardens at The Leaf, The Leaf, and the Lyric Theatre, etc.
The Park Event Assistant will be required to understand park policies, have knowledge of all facilities to provide accurate information, an understanding of pricing information to a certain degree and be able to direct inquiries to the appropriate person(s) or departments. Park Event Assistants will occasionally provide administrative support to the Community & Special Events department and execute a varying number of tasks related to reporting and communications for events.
Wage:
$17.85 per hour
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
A high school diploma and/or GED equivalent.
Must possess a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License.
A minimum 3 years in the hospitality, food & beverage, or customer service field.
Intermediate technology and computer skills.
Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and high volumes of diverse work with high attention to detail.
Professional and positive demeanor with the ability to work efficiently as part of a team or independently with minimal or no supervision.
Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with the utmost discretion.
Effective communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills in order to engage with stakeholders, clients, and guests.
Experience with POS systems, cash handling, and following financial procedures considered an asset.
Candidates must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, capable of handling heavy loads of up to 50 lbs., and push/pull 50-100 lbs.
Must be able to perform physically strenuous work outdoors in all types of weather.
Ability to speak French and/or other languages considered an asset.
