Position: Parish Nurse (Part-Time)

Location: Yorkminster Park Baptist Church, Toronto, ON

Hours: Up to 25 hours per week (includes Sunday worship)

Position Purpose

The Parish Nurse will promote YPBC as a place of faith, healing, and community. As a member of the ministerial team, the YPBC Parish Nurse will provide confidential, holistic health support that integrates spiritual, physical, and mental well-being within a Christian, faith-based community.

Key Responsibilities

Health Counselling & Support

: Provide confidential health care consultations with individuals and families; engage in home, hospital, long-term care visits; offer support during periods of illness and life challenges that may impact health and wellness. Work with and support the activities of the YPBC health and wellness committee.

Referral & Advocacy

: Link individuals to medical, mental health, and community resources; assist with healthcare navigation; advocate for the health needs of vulnerable members.

Health Education & Health Promotion

: Develop educational programs on wellness and faith-based health care; lead health education and wellness classes; coordinate guest speakers; facilitate access to support groups such as Bereavement, Family and Divorce Care.

Community Engagement

: Build partnerships and connections with community health agencies, social services providers, other community health professionals and collaborate with YPBC mission and community engagement team.

Administration & Ministry

: Maintain confidential records; prepare reports and annual plans; be in person at the church during Sunday worship services; attend in person staff meetings; oversee first aid and defibrillator readiness and support the work of the clergy in their pastoral care mission.

Qualifications

Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). Baccalaureate in Nursing preferred. Parish Nursing certificate or willing to pursue and complete parish nurse courses. Minimum 5 years of nursing experience (community or teaching experience an asset). Deeply grounded in Christian faith; spiritually mature and compassionate. Professional liability coverage. Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Valid driver's licence an asset. Experience working with volunteers, boards, or committees. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a ministry team.

Hours & Reporting

Up to 25 hours per week, including Sunday worship (2-3 hours weekly).

Compensation

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
