Parent Infant Advisor

Job Description

The Parent Infant Advisor is responsible for providing family-centered in-home support to parents whose infants or children are Newborn to age six (6 years) and they will provide opportunities to support caregivers with the physical, communicative, cognitive, and/or psychological development of their children.





Referrals to support assessments of family needs as it relates to the child's development, and screening and assessments of developmental functioning levels of the infant or child while ensuring that the family is part of the identification planning process.


Provides culturally appropriate training, including service and wellness plans for infants to the parents or family members to facilitate and maintain ongoing development of the child as well as supportive counseling as required.

Performs a welcome home visit to all children born to Sagamok Anishnawbek. Carries out regular home visits to implement individual service plans, monitor progress, reassess needs, and initiate changes as required.

Support all caregivers in ensuring that children have all the necessary registration and identification.

Coordinates and collaborates with other healthcare providers and community children's services to ensure comprehensive care and effective coordinated service interventions to meet individual infants, children's, and their parent needs.

Maintains files and content of files (reports, correspondence, records, and forms) and ensures their confidentiality in the home.

In consultation with supervisor, maintain a waiting list and prioritize families requiring services.

Develops and implements culturally appropriate educational materials and activities that promote child development and family wellness that will be demonstrated in the home.

Facilitates group sessions or workshops for parents on topics such as child development, parenting skills, and cultural heritage.

Participates in community events and activities to promote the program and engage with families.




Respect for, sensitivity towards as well as knowledge and understanding of Anishnawbek culture, traditions, and the Seven Grandfather Teachings.


Hold or be willing to secure, CPR and First Aid Certificate.

Valid Class G Ontario driver's license.

Ability to work flexible hours.

Must provide a Vulnerable Sector Check prior to commencing employment.

Position is subject to six months' probation.




College or University degree in a social science such as psychology, or social work with credits relating to child development is preferred. A diploma in Early Childhood Education will be considered.


A minimum of one year experience working with families and children, specifically in child and/or infant care and development.

Knowledge and experience in family dynamics, effective interviewing techniques, and adult training.

Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Local knowledge and understanding of Sagamok Anishnawbek's services and will be considered an asset.
