Looking for a rewarding career change? Join our team! The District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board (TBDSSAB) is now hiring a Paralegal, at Headquarters in Thunder Bay. Closing date is April 14/23. TBDSSAB supports people to improve their lives and become self-sufficient. We do this as the service system manager for vital, quality social services needed by individuals and families living in the District of Thunder Bay --- including child care and early years, community housing, homelessness prevention programs --- and through the delivery of Ontario Works. POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Manger of Housing Programs, the Paralegal is responsible for providing assistance with the LTB Backlog caused by the slowdown of service during the pandemic, on behalf of TBDSSAB in Small Claims Court and Tribunals, including the drafting and filing of legal documents and attending hearings as TBDSSAB\xe2\x80\x99s representative. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provide assistance with the LTB Backlog on behalf of TBDSSAB in Small Claims Court and Tribunals, registration of security and the drafting and filing of legal documents and attending hearings as TBDSSAB\xe2\x80\x99s representative 2. Perform legal and records research 3. Prepare written reports and correspondence 4. Check and edit legal forms and documents for accuracy 5. Assist the Manager of Housing Programs with legal activities such as document delivery, execution of documents, etc. 6. Assist with other duties such as: data entry, archiving & maintaining company records as required. 7. Liaise and collaborate with external legal counsel, tenants, legal clinics, 8. Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience
  • Must possess a valid Paralegal License and be in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a Paralegal role
  • Must have substantial experience with proceedings at the Landlord and Tenant Board and Small
Claims Court
  • College Diploma in Paralegal studies, or a Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in law
  • In-house training from a law firm or other legal establishment as asset
  • Thorough knowledge of legal research techniques, legal principles, practices, and provincial and
federal laws
  • Relevant computer software knowledge and experience
  • Ability to work well as a team player and independently; proactive and flexible; adaptable to change;

Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook CONDITION(S) OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Must undergo a successful Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
  • Valid Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination in accordance with the TBDSSAB Policy HR 05 145 (COVID-19
Vaccination) Job Type: Full-time Salary: From $61,871.03 per year Schedule:

Experience:
