Position Overview:



White & Company Family Law is currently seeking a Paralegal to join our Legal Team! As a Paralegal at White & Company Family Law you play a critical role in supporting our team of Lawyers while they navigate client family law matters. A Paralegal at White & Company is a pivotal part of the client's experiences and success. This role requires the ability to work collaboratively with lawyers on the team and communicate clearly and concisely the needs of the file. This role demands ongoing knowledge of British Columbia's Family Law procedures, and a "love to learn" attitude".

Key Responsibilities



Assist lawyers in managing family law cases Manage client expectations and perform the function of initial contact screening between the client and the lawyer to assist in conserving the client's retainer and ensuring the lawyer is free to continue focused work; Display compassion and empathy for clients while validating their experiences and communicating the need to follow the lawyer's advice; Participate in initial client intake and consultation when required; Prepare and draft letters, documents and pleadings on client and lawyer instructions; Review and manage timelines for client files, prompting next steps On lawyer instruction, conduct legal research inclusive of procedural processes and caselaw; Collect information through various platforms as instructed by W&C lawyers Coordinate with internal team, clients and opposing counsel regarding timeline for hearings, mediations and trial schedules Ensure compliance with BC Family Law regulations and the Law Society of BC guidelines All other duties as assigned by the designated or managing lawyer.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



Familiarity with family law matters such as divorce, childcare arrangements, spousal support and other relevant matters Knowledge of the court system and procedural requirements for family law cases Experience drafting, reviewing and filing relevant documents such as pleadings, affidavits and other legal correspondence Ability to research and analyze relevant case law, statutes and other relevant regulations. Strong communication skills with the ability to speak directly and concisely with support staff, the legal team and external parties Ability to handle sensitive and confidential client situations with empathy, professionalism and discretion Positive attitude and demeanor towards all clients, third parties and colleagues Work ethic and commitment to completing quality work within prescribed deadlines. Proficiency with computer programs including Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint and document/knowledge management systems. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. Experience working within and understanding: Court Services Online, LTSA, and BC Online.

Required Education



Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Paralegal studies; and/or Relevant combination of education and experience

Other Previous Experience



Prior experience working in a law firm, ideally specializing in family law 2+ years previous experience in a paralegal role Lived experience with family law courts and/or divorce and separation considered an asset.

Salary comprises of Base Pay plus Bonus structure paid out monthly with base pay range between $70,000 - $80,000 with overall compensation possible between $106,000 and $116,000+ yearly.
