We are seeking a licensed Paralegal (LSO, in good standing) with 2-3 years of experience handling
Landlord and Tenant Board
,
Small Claims Court
, and
Provincial Offences
matters.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and file legal documents (e.g., LTB forms, pleadings, motions).
Represent clients at hearings, trials, and settlement conferences.
Manage collections, payment plans, and eviction processes.
Liaise with housing authorities, community organizations, and court staff.
Maintain accurate legal records and reports.
Conduct thorough legal research using tools such as LexisNexis to gather relevant information for cases.
Draft legal documents, including pleadings, contracts, and correspondence, ensuring precision and adherence to legal formats.
Manage case files using iManage, maintaining organization and accessibility of all documents.
Assist in preparing for trials by organizing exhibits, witness lists, and other necessary materials.
Conduct interviews with clients and witnesses to gather pertinent information for case development.
Perform data entry and maintain accurate records of case activities and deadlines.
Handle administrative tasks such as filing documents with courts, managing calendars, and responding to phone inquiries with professionalism.
Proofread all documents for accuracy and clarity before submission or filing.
Collaborate with team members on project management tasks to ensure timely completion of assignments.
Attend court and trials.
Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of Residential Tenancies Act, Small Claims Court Rules, and Provincial Offences Act*. Proficient in Word, Excel, and Yardi Voyager.
Excellent communication, organization, and negotiation skills.
Willingness to travel as needed.
Proven experience in a paralegal role or similar position is preferred.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Excellent writing skills with attention to detail in legal drafting.
Proficient in research methodologies and familiar with legal databases such as LexisNexis.
Experience with data entry and clerical duties in a legal environment is advantageous.
Strong phone etiquette and interpersonal skills for effective communication with clients and colleagues.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
