Role & Responsibilities:Help propel your team and its business partners to successThis position will primarily provide legal support to various lines of business of Amex Bank of Canada and Amex Canada Inc., (collectively, Amex) with a strong emphasis on our proprietary card products (consumer and small business) as well as merchant services. The successful candidate will be required to work collaboratively with colleagues and leaders within the legal department of Amex (\xe2\x80\x9cGeneral Counsel\xe2\x80\x99s Organization\xe2\x80\x9d or \xe2\x80\x9cGCO\xe2\x80\x9d) on matters impacting relevant client groups. The successful candidate will also build and maintain close and trusting relationships with internal business partners, stay up to date on key regulatory developments impacting the business and keep clients and colleagues informed of legal issues and updates.Here are just some of what you will do in this role:
  • Legal review of marketing and other customer-facing offers and materials including ensuring the accuracy and clarity of terms and conditions
  • Support for product launches and refreshes, including providing advice and assisting legal counsel in the GCO with drafting disclosures
  • Develop subject matter expertise of relevant laws and regulations in Canada
  • Partner and collaborate with stakeholders including business, compliance and risk partners as required to support business initiatives
  • Provide legal support on other legal matters as required
Minimum Qualifications:
  • At least 3-5 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience reviewing marketing and other customer-facing materials
  • Relevant legal experience obtained at a law firm or in-house legal department
  • Completion of post-secondary education
  • Law clerk or paralegal certification would be considered an asset
Preferred qualifications:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of the GCO team
  • Knowledge of the relevant legal and regulatory environment that implicates Amex\xe2\x80\x99s business, such as: marketing/advertising, competition consumer protection including in the context of financial services and privacy/anti-spam
  • Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and persuasively, in both written and oral format
  • A collegial and collaborative attitude with the ability to build strong relationships and partner with others to drive results
  • Self-motivated, high level of personal energy and commitment
  • An ability to prioritize among competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong leadership skills and strong customer focus
