Wood's Homes is looking for one (0.79) FTE School Support Counsellor(s) I to join our Palliser School Division Program. This is a temporary position ending June 15, 2026.



Role Summary

Reporting to the Management of Wood's Homes and Treatment and Learning Resources, the School Support Counsellor I is responsible for front-line care of young people admitted to Wood's Homes Educational and Day Treatment Services continuum of services. The School Support I is also responsible for working collaboratively with school personnel, providing in-school support needs and liaison with the young person, family, and community, and assists with administrative tasks as assigned by the Program Manager. The School Support Counsellor will demonstrate due diligence in being exceptional in the delivery of high-quality services and in meeting the requirements of the Health and Safety Management System at Wood's Homes.

Responsibilities

In conjunction with the program manager, ensures that an (IPP) individualized program plan includes both treatment and educational goals, and that case management strategies are established for each student. Communicates with guardians, clinicians, social workers, school representatives and other individuals involved in case management. Communicates information concerning clients and families through monthly reports, clinical rounds, and team meetings. Shows developing skills in individual and group counselling o Acts as a client & family liaison. o Intervenes directly in crisis situations. Ensures the provision of necessary medical and clinical services (as prescribed by relevant professionals) for young people involved in a school program. Maintains up to date health and clinical records with the support of Program Management. Role models effective, appropriate, and mature coping strategies for each student to utilize in his/her personal growth. Participates in case conferences, rounds, team meetings and supervision as established by Senior Management. Assists in feedback regarding practicum students. Attends designated conferences/seminars and professional training, and executes other responsibilities as assigned by Program Management. Works in accordance with the ethics and customs of the childcare profession and Wood's Homes policies. Executes other responsibilities as assigned. Completes all required health and safety training. Reports workplace hazards, unsafe or unhealthy conditions, or incidents (including near misses, injuries, or equipment damage) to their direct supervisor.

Working Conditions



Program locations consisting of schools, community-based, and residential Travel to local businesses and community locations Shift work and rotational schedule which may include weekdays, weekends, evenings, etc. Exposure to emotional situations Exposure to conflict situations Exposure to crisis situations

Qualifications

Diploma/Undergraduate Degree in the Social Sciences, Child Care or related area and a minimum two years related experience.(Current proof of registration may be required for certain diplomas or degrees) Full Class 5 (non GDL) driver's license with $2 million liability insurance Drivers abstract with no more than 6 demerits Must have own transportation.
