Zodiac Hurricane Technologies In., a leader in the manufacturing of Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIB) is seeking a Paint Shop Technician for our Delta , BC location.
This position is permanent, full-time, working Monday through Friday starting at 6 am with opportunities for overtime.
We are seeking individuals with a positive mindset and attention to detail to join our team. Candidates must be willing to work hard in a fast-paced team environment and under pressure to meet deadlines.
As a Paint Shop Technician, you will be part of the Paint Shop Team working with products such as gel coat, coating and body filler. Your primary task will involve working with FRP (fiber-reinforced plastic), boats and aluminum boats, and gel coat, performing a repair on gel coat and finishing techniques to achieve high quality and visually appealing products.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1 - Surface Preparation
Clean and prepare surfaces by sanding, scraping, and removing rust, old paint, or other contaminants.
Use solvents, brushes, and power tools to ensure proper adhesion of coatings.
2 - Coating Application
Apply primers, paints, and protective coatings using various methods such as spraying, rolling, or brushing.
Ensure even coverage and thickness of coatings according to specifications.
3 - Material Mixing and Selection
Mix and prepare coating materials, taking into account environmental conditions and specifications.
Select appropriate coatings based on the type of surface, environmental exposure, and customer requirements.
4 - Quality Control
Inspect surfaces for defects and ensure that coatings meet quality standards.
Identify and rectify any imperfections, irregularities, or inconsistencies in the coating application.
5 - Safety Compliance
Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and properly dispose of hazardous materials.
6 - Documentation
Maintain accurate records of work performed, including types and quantities of coatings used.
Complete inspection reports and document any deviations from specifications.
7 - Collaboration
Work closely with other departments to coordinate painting activities with the overall construction schedule.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and quality control personnel.
Qualifications:
1 - Experience
A minimum of 2 years of experience and certification level as a painter in the shipbuilding or marine industry is highly desirable.
Experience working with aluminum and/or fiberglass is preferred.
Autobody and/or commercial vehicle experience will be considered an asset.
Sanding experience is considered an asset.
2 - Knowledge
Understanding of various coating materials, surface preparation techniques, and application methods.
Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to ship coatings.
3 - Skills
Proficiency in using painting tools and equipment.
Attention to detail and the ability to produce high-quality work.
4 - Physical Stamina
Must be able to lift heavy weights (up to 23 kgs / 50 lbs).
Must be able to work in confined and/or restricted spaces in occasional awkward positions.
5 - Certifications
Relevant certifications in painting and coating applications are an asset.
6 - General
Fluent in reading, writing and speaking English
Steel-toe safety boots are required.
WHMIS training is an asset.
Working in a manufacturing or production facility is preferred.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment and performing repetitive tasks.
Capable of working with hazardous chemicals.
