About the Role
Sparwood Fire Services is a dedicated team led by the Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Chief, supported by an Assistant Chief, Training Captain, Captains, Lieutenants, and Firefighters. Paid On-Call Firefighters receive continuous training, professional development, and the tools needed to respond effectively to emergencies.

What You'll Do
As a Paid On-Call Firefighter, you will:
Assist in providing fire prevention, protection, suppression, and rescue services, including responding to hazardous and emergency situations.
Participate in regular training, drills, and practice sessions to maintain and enhance your skills
Ensure the cleaning, servicing, and maintenance of equipment, apparatus, turnout gear, and uniforms
Support and engage in public education programs and community events, promoting fire safety and building community relationships

Be at least 19 years of age
Hold a high school diploma or equivalent
Reside within the District of Sparwood
Possess a valid Class 5 non-restricted driver's license with a safe driving record
Provide a clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check
Be in good physical condition and able to successfully complete a physical agility test
Be capable of performing prolonged, physically demanding work in adverse conditions and inclement weather
Be available to attend required training sessions and maintain an acceptable attendance record for emergency calls
Demonstrate the ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
Interact with the public in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner
Preferred Qualifications (Assets)
Availability to respond to daytime emergencies
Strong mechanical aptitude
Possession of a Class 1, 2, 3, or 4 driver's license, and/or air brake endorsement
Completion of fire-related courses, such as NFPA 1001 Level II, NFPA 1002, NFPA 472
Advanced first aid training (e.g., OFA Level 3, EMR, or equivalent)
Previous firefighting, emergency services, or Mine Rescue experience
Salary & Benefits
Paid On-Call Firefighters are compensated for training practices, emergency response call-outs and scheduled on-call duty shifts.
Training:
$19.54 per hour
Emergency Response & Duty
: $23.34 per hour
In addition, Paid On-Call Firefighters receive a range of benefits, including:

Firefighters are expected to maintain regular attendance at practices, emergency calls, and required training sessions in order to remain active members of the department
