Packaging Team Leads are responsible for overseeing staff activities, packaging raw materials, and preparing cases for shipment. The Packaging Team Lead provides leadership to Packaging Technicians in maintaining standards of a Health Canada regulated packaging environment and assist in all aspects of preparing cannabis for final sale once it is ready to be packed, ensuring orders are done accurately and in a timely manner and maintaining high quality standards. This process includes accurately sorting, weighing, labeling, packaging, and inspecting CIG products in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
This is a hardworking, hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves environment emphasizing a team-oriented and collaborative style. It will be key for the candidate to embrace change and see past obstacles with a focus on solutions in the context of a company undergoing rapid growth and ongoing functional integration.
Responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Use the packaging and label schedule to plan daily work for the team
Communicate and collaborate with other Team Leads, Packaging Manager, Packaging Coordinator, Quality Assurance, and Director of Operations as required
Retrieving product from the vault for packaging and ensure proper documentation
Participating in bulk packaging and preparing QC/retention samples as required
Working with Quality Assurance to ensure adherence to proper packaging/documentation procedures
Perform balance calibrations and basic equipment maintenance/cleaning as required
Assist with packaging activities as required; includes accurately sorting, weighing, labeling, packaging, and inspecting CIG products
Assist with cleaning the packaging, storage, shipment, and other areas as required
Troubleshoot basic equipment malfunctions and contacting appropriate channels where needed
Documentation & Reporting
Ensure all paperwork/packaging/labels/weights are accurate and complete
Sign off the current packaging schedule as items are completed; bring any inconsistencies to the attention of the Packaging Manager
Provide input to QA and Packaging Manager on SOP revisions
Prepare and sign all packaging forms for assigned work orders including packaging run records, label verification forms, case label verification forms, etc.
Using Enterprise Resource Planning Software (Sage)
Using Document Management Software (Veeva Vault)
Using production tracking software (Microsoft 365)
Team Leadership
Supervising staff of up to 10 employees in performing tasks
Assist in training of new and existing employees
Delivering verbal constructive coaching and feedback on performance to staff in a timely and appropriate manner
Maintaining open communication with the Packaging Manager related to any employee concerns
Respect and maintain confidentiality of private conversations with employees
Assisting in providing feedback for, and in the delivery of, CIG's Performance Appraisal System

Physical Demands:Ability to perform physical tasks, including but not limited to; pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 50lbs), bending, walking, and standing/sitting for prolonged periods of time
Ability to withstand repetitive twisting motion of the body for long periods of time
Ability to wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment including, but not limited to medical gloves, safety eyewear, face masks, etc.
Environmental Demands:Sterile cannabis product packaging environment
Ability to work in an environment that uses cleaning products including, but not limited to, Isopropyl Alcohol, Ethanol, and residue cleaning products like AM717, Caustek-Free, and Formula-19.
This position will involve exposure to cannabis materials and is therefore not likely suitable for anyone that may suffer from allergies to cannabis materials, or for anyone that experiences medical issues as a result of exposure to cannabis materials
The ideal candidate has:
High School Diploma or equivalent experience
1-3 years' experience in regulated Manufacturing/Packaging environment
Minimum 1-year experience in a leadership role in a fast-paced, production environment is an asset
Meticulous attention to detail
Must have good communication skills, both written and verbal, to work effectively with all levels of employees and management
Ability to work in a results-oriented, time-sensitive environment
Ability to work independently and safely
Access to reliable transportation to work full-time hours as scheduled (40 hours per week)
Must have the ability to provide a criminal record check that is clear of any charges that could be related or have a direct correlation to the position or company
