About the role:
The Packaging Manager is accountable for the daily performance the Centralized Packaging Center (CPC) in a productive and safe manner. The individual will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day packaging workflow to meet daily packaging targets, coordinate work volumes and ensure correct staffing levels are maintained. Responsibilities include planning of daily, weekly, and monthly workload, managing CPC headcount and budget, ensuring health and safety procedures are followed, as well as the identification and correction of potential workflow bottlenecks. What you will be working on:

  • Oversee the CPC to ensure the effective and efficient operation through appropriate metrics and targets.
  • Drive efficiencies and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cost, increase productivity and improve quality.
  • Review KPIs and direct packaging team on any corrective measures necessary.
  • Manage labour and materials in accordance with the packaging production schedule.
  • Plan and maintain staffing plans based on projected volumes and monitor planned volume against the actual volume. Adjust staffing levels as necessary.
  • Develop and continuously analyse budget versus planned forecast and alter production accordingly.
  • Prepare weekly load plans for the facility and communicate targets to the Supervisors.
  • Provide daily direction to Supervisors to achieve production targets.
  • Ensure Supervisors are trained on all job duties, safety procedures and company policies.
  • Assess Supervisors performance using approved performance management processes and coaching techniques, while providing fair and consistent feedback.
  • Collaborate with the Supervisors to conduct discipline, manage grievances, and maintain good employee relations.
  • In partnership with the Facilities department, maintain physical conditions of the warehouse by inspecting equipment, issuing work orders for repair and requisitions for replacements.
  • Prepare and share accurate reports to assist the Director, Operations in the successful and profitable management of the operation.
  • Assist in investigating accidents, completing accident reports, and ensuring preventive actions are implemented.
  • Provide coverage for Director, Operations for vacations and absences
What are we looking for?
  • 5-8 years of production or manufacturing management experience.
  • Process Engineering background is an asset.
  • Experience in a unionized environment is an asset.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt and Lean Manufacturing Principle background preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office such as Word and Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess a sense of urgency required to work in a deadline driven production environment.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills and conflict resolution skills.
  • Planning and resource allocation skills.
