We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Cold Chain Packaging Engineer to support the design, testing, and validation of thermal packaging solutions for temperature-sensitive products. This entry-level position is ideal for candidates looking to gain experience in cold chain logistics, packaging development, and compliance with regulatory and industry standards such as ISTA and ISO.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop custom insulated shipping systems and passive thermal packaging for pharmaceuticals, biologics, food, and other perishable goods. Collaborate with the laboratory and packaging engineering teams to design effective and compliant packaging solutions tailored to specific transit profiles and temperature requirements. Contribute to sustainability efforts by researching and evaluating recyclable, biodegradable, and reusable packaging materials for integration into cold chain solutions. Design packaging components using SolidWorks, including creation of explosion diagrams to illustrate cold chain package assembly and structure. Construct physical packaging prototypes from scratch using core materials such as foam, corrugate, and thermal components to support rapid prototyping of new packaging concepts translating design ideas into functional, testable models. Set up and execute thermal performance tests in accordance with ISTA 7D, 7E, ASTM, and internal protocols. Monitor temperature data, compile performance results, and support environmental chamber testing. Draft detailed test protocols, qualification reports, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to document packaging development and validation activities. Maintain accurate records of tests, materials, and packaging configurations. Ensure solutions meet applicable quality standards, client requirements, and industry regulations (e.g., GMP, GLP, ISO 9001). Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement efforts related to shipping failures or design updates. Work closely with sales, quality, and operations teams to ensure successful implementation of new packaging designs.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Packaging Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field. 2-4 years of relevant experience in product design, packaging development, cold chain, or thermal systems (internships/co-ops acceptable). Strong written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to write technical reports and protocols. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and CAD tools (SolidWorks or similar). Strong organizational and time management skills with a hands-on, self-starter attitude. Ability to work on multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills:

Knowledge of ISTA procedures and cold chain packaging principles. Familiarity with thermal data loggers, environmental chambers, and temperature validation methods. + Familiarity with Good Distribution Practices (GDP) and ISO 9001/15378 standards.
+ Understanding of shipping lane qualification and thermal performance mapping.
+ Familiarity of thermal simulation methods using finite element methods to analyze heat transfer in cold chain packaging.
