Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Packaging Development Specialist is responsible for the research, development, and execution of packaging initiatives across multiple brands and product lines. Responsible for scoping and executing packaging innovations with the Procurement, Operations, and Packaging teams. The Packaging Development Specialist also provides technical support and solutions for issues related to packaging, leading the Deviation/CAPA process. Leads all design extensions & adaptations across multiple packaging formats for optimal design, accuracy of content and print production results
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Contribute to packaging innovation by identifying, developing, and implementing new packaging solutions that meet the operational, regulatory, and brand requirements
Serve as the packaging subject matter expert (SME) on cross-functional project teams, collaborating with Procurement, Operations, Commercial, and Supply Chain
Build and maintain strong working relationships with packaging vendors, suppliers, and teams across the Safari Flower Co facility network
Own the development and upkeep of packaging specifications, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and compliance
Support the creation and maintenance of Bills of Materials (BoMs) within the inventory management system
Collaborate with Quality and Commercial teams to investigate and resolve packaging-related customer complaints
Plan, execute, and document packaging trials within an industrial production environment to validate new materials or equipment
Oversee the packaging artwork and label approval process, from concept to prepress, ensuring accuracy and timely feedback from all stakeholders
Address and help resolve artwork or print production issues with suppliers and printers, including the investigation and closure of deviations and CAPAs
Maintain a strong understanding of print production standards and packaging technologies, with an emphasis on regulatory and GMP-compliant packaging requirements

QUALIFICATIONS
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Packaging Engineering, Manufacturing or Process Engineering, Business, or Graphic Design preferred but not required
Minimum 3 years experience in packaging development, engineering, or technology integration, preferably in a CPG or GMP-regulated manufacturing environment
Hands-on experience with corrugated, PET, pouches, and other flexible packaging materials and related flexible packaging materials
Proven track record in the design, redesign, and optimization of packaging for new products and product line
Strong project management skills, with the ability to drive timelines, coordinate cross-functional teams, and manage multiple priorities
Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills
Highly self-motivated, with strong attention to detail, documentation, and meeting deadlines
Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships across departments, vendors, and stakeholders in a fast-paced, regulated environment
Prior experience working under GMP protocols and familiarity with Health Canada packaging and labelling requirements is considered a strong asset
Must be able to successfully complete background and reference checks
Must be eligible to legally work in Canada
