Crabbe Mountain is home to the largest vertical descent in New Brunswick and offers premier skiing, snowboarding, hiking, biking, and event experiences. We are looking to grow as a four-season destination with Mountain Biking expansion planned for the near future. Crabbe is positioned as a cornerstone of outdoor recreation and rural tourism in the province. Crabbe Mountain is entering an exciting chapter of growth and innovation.

Job Overview



The Outside Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all outdoor operational aspects of the ski hill, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality experiences for guests and staff. This leadership role includes the management of ski lift operations, snowmaking, grooming, terrain parks, trail maintenance, and vehicle/equipment maintenance. The ideal candidate is hands-on, safety-focused, and capable of managing diverse teams in a fast-paced outdoor environment.

Key Accountabilities



Leadership & Team Management



Supervise and support department supervisors and staff in lift operations, snowmaking, grooming, and vehicle maintenance. Hire, train, schedule, and evaluate seasonal and year-round outdoor staff. Promote a positive and productive team culture focused on safety, accountability, and guest service.

Daily Operations



Oversee the daily setup, operation, and shutdown of lifts and trails. Coordinate snowmaking and grooming efforts to maintain optimal snow conditions. Monitor and manage trail conditions, signage, fencing, and hazard mitigation. Ensure terrain parks are maintained and built to standards for safety and guest satisfaction.

Equipment & Infrastructure:



Oversee maintenance and operation of mountain vehicles, snowcats, snowmobiles, and heavy machinery. Coordinate lift inspections, maintenance, and emergency repairs in collaboration with lift maintenance staff. Maintain buildings, on-mountain infrastructure, and storage facilities related to outdoor operations.

Safety & Compliance:



Ensure all activities adhere to provincial safety regulations, ski industry standards, and environmental guidelines. Conduct regular safety meetings and enforce the use of PPE and safe work practices. Assist with emergency response coordination, including lift evacuations and incident reporting.

Planning & Budgeting:



Participate in annual operational planning and capital improvement projects. Monitor departmental budgets, labor costs, and resource allocation. Recommend improvements to increase efficiency, guest experience, and sustainability.

Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications



Millwright/industrial mechanic CQ or Ski lift technician CQ or Elevator Technician CQ Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in industrial repair and predictive maintenance. Proven leadership and team management skills Strong knowledge of lift operations, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and heavy equipment. Familiarity with health & safety regulations, risk management, and emergency response. Ability to work long hours outdoors in all weather conditions. Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Valid driver's license. First Aid or Ski Patrol certification is an asset.
An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.

Working Conditions



Full-time, year-round position Outdoor, mountainous environment; exposure to cold, snow, wind, and variable terrain. Extended hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays during ski season. On-call availability for emergencies or severe weather operations.
