The Urban Heiltsuk Support Team, with offices located in Vancouver, B.C. is a community-focused program dedicated to empowering individuals and families by connecting them with the resources and support they need to thrive. Our outreach program is committed to providing culturally grounded, compassionate, and holistic care to those facing homelessness, substance use challenges, and barriers to accessing services.

The Urban Heiltsuk Support Team is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our team in the Vancouver location, as an Outreach Worker; this is currently a temporary full-time role until March 31, 2026, with the possibility of renewal at the end of the term. The Outreach Worker will play a vital role in connecting with Heiltsuk citizens who are homeless and/or residing in the Downtown Eastside, and facing substance use challenges. This role focuses on harm reduction, advocacy, and creating pathways to wellness by fostering trusting relationships and linking individuals to essential supports.

This role requires a compassionate non-judgemental approach to working with others, an understanding of unhoused dynamics, and a commitment to social justice and equity. A component of this role is the requirement to have a valid class 5 driver's license for the purpose of travelling within the Downtown Eastside and lower mainland, and the ability to carry a supplies bag while walking long distances.

About You



You have experience working in outreach services, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, and you understand the ethical requirements related to protection of privacy, and you can demonstrate compassion for individuals served while also maintaining professional boundaries. You have a diplomatic demeanor, and you build positive relationships with your co-workers and people being served. You are a self-starter, safety conscious individual, with strong organization skills, who is capable of effectively using Microsoft Office Suite. You are committed to the term.

Your Essential Skills Include



Experience working in outreach, social services, harm reduction, or related fields. Knowledge of harm reduction, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed practices Demonstrated ability to maintain privacy, confidentiality, and manage sensitive information Experience working with diverse populations in community-based settings, preferably within social services or non-profit organizations Empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental approach to individuals and families facing challenges. Ability to work independently and collaboratively to support co-workers, in a dynamic and fast-paced environment Ability to work Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional requirement to work evenings and weekends, when travelling and attending events Ability to respond to emergency calls outside of work hours (and carry work cell phone) Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and task switch Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust across diverse backgrounds Ability to work collaboratively with service providers and community organizations. Able to use internet, email, and Microsoft Office products. Valid Class 5 Driver's License and reliable transportation to and from work Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector)

About the Pay:



The hourly rate of pay ranges from

$25.00 to $27.00 per hour

, pending qualifications. This employee will work a regular schedule of 37.5 hours per week, and will include some evening and weekend shifts. Group benefits.
