Your opportunity:

Under the general supervision of the Manager, Events and Marketing and working closely with the Marketing and Communications Coordinator, the incumbent provides a wide range of promotional services and marketing support including, but not limited to, working with University clubs, divisions and Faculties to increase campus outreach, coordinate and execute grassroots initiatives, plan promotional activities and oversee the preparation of promotional material. This position assists with the planning and development of marketing material for various athletic-based campaigns.

This position coordinates outreach programs, including Blues Buddy Up, and explores additional ways to expose the brand to external constituents, while looking for new or ongoing opportunities to further engage the campus.

They help in the planning, preparation and implementation of promotional activations at a variety of events during the intercollegiate season.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • In collaboration with the marketing, promotions and communications team, develop a yearly promotional plan with specific focus on campus and community outreach.
  • Explore and recommend new opportunities for on-campus and community engagement, looking for opportunities to promote the Varsity Blues brand, programs and events on all three University campuses as well as with local community partners and sport specific grass roots programs.
  • Assist in maintenance of key networks, including student organizations, local community groups and sport-specific grassroots programs to engage these groups and promote our programs.
  • Update promotional content for varsityblues.ca and other social media platforms to ensure all outreach initiatives are promoted effectively.
  • Act as the first point of contact for student-athletes, coaches and the Varsity Board who wish to engage in community outreach activities.
  • Assist with hiring, training and directing the activities of work-study students who assist in set-up and implementation of on-campus and event-based promotional activities.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in marketing or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three years relevant experience in a university athletics setting.
  • Minimum three years experience with marketing and promotions, preferably in an athletic department or pro sports team.
  • Experience with event activations and sport specific in-game promotions.
  • Experience with social media and online digital campaigns
  • Experience working with a variety of graphic software (Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign, etc.)
  • Excellent interpersonal, written & oral communication skills, organizational skills and demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Effective problem solving and time management skills.
  • Ability to deliver high quality work in an environment of overlapping and time-sensitive tasks.
  • Ability to work in a position driven by competing demands and frequent interruptions.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate innovative ideas, ability to exercise discretion, good judgment and initiative.
  • Must have a proven ability to collaborate and work effectively within a teamand independently.
