Job Description


Newcomer Programs & Services has served newcomers and refugees in Toronto for over four decades. Its mandate is to help newcomers and refugees settle, adjust, and integrate into society. Funded by the three levels of government, WoodGreen Newcomer Programs & Services operates English language training programs, settlement services, employment support programs, mentorship, networking activities, and social and recreational activities. Newcomer Programs & Services is committed to providing friendly and professional services to all newcomers to help them connect with Canadian society and their new way of life.

What You Will Do

  • Put forth plans and implement innovative outreach projects/digital outreach projects.
  • Ensure outreach projects align with the program and organizational marketing strategy.
  • Share promising practices and lessons learned with the manager and team.
  • Market all Language Services to targeted neighbourhoods (schools, libraries, partner organizations, etc.) to meet and surpass funder targets.
  • Support Newcomer Programs and Services\xe2\x80\x99 marketing and outreach activities identify and develop marketing tools and create marketing materials.
  • Promote WoodGreen\xe2\x80\x99s Enhanced Language Training Program and Language services to prospective clients, and employers to attract internship, employment and mentorship opportunities and conduct initial program screening.
  • Lead in developing and producing promotional materials including online marketing tools, PowerPoint presentations, brochures, handouts, flyers, media ads, information kits, reports and events aligned with WoodGreen\xe2\x80\x99s and funders\xe2\x80\x99 guidelines.
  • Engage local partners and assist the manager in expanding services in assigned locations.
  • Identify employers open to providing paid employment opportunities for our sector-specific language learners and the ELT program\xe2\x80\x99s clients.
  • Assist in building partnerships with identified employers.
  • Prepare and conduct surveys.
  • Plan and perform outreach in local neighbourhoods to ensure new student registrations align with program targets.
  • Engage with other WoodGreen services to ensure seamless referral of clients to and from these services.
  • Observe and report trends in the community to ensure that program activities align with student and client needs.
  • Develop and facilitate workshops based on students\xe2\x80\x99 interests.
  • Assist the Manager with preparing required internal program reports and funder reports.
  • Abide by the organization\'s anti-racism, anti-oppression objectives and community development principles.
  • Participates in regular supervisory sessions.
What You Bring to the Team
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree
  • 2 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a non-profit or similar organization.
  • 2+ years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in program coordination with experience in partnership development.
What Will Set You Apart
  • Experience in marketing, outreach and/or communications, preferably within social or employment services.
  • Strong experience using social media and other electronic media for marketing & and communications.
  • Experience in developing marketing and communication tools.
  • Sound presentation, public speaking, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated collaborative skills with a diversity of stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills.
  • Understanding of anti-racism issues and community development principles.
  • Lived or deep understanding of the experiences of newcomers.
  • Strong English language skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, social media marketing tools and essential publishing software.
  • Prior experience in language learning services would be an asset.
  • Additional languages are an asset
