Work Hours: Must be available to work 6 days a week between Monday - Sunday

YMCA Camping and Outdoor Education offers outdoor experiences that foster personal growth and build community. YMCA Camp Pine Crest is an overnight camp serving children, families, and organizations through naturally focused programs that embody the mission, vision, and outcomes of the YMCA. Camp Pine Crest is made up of 650 acres of Muskoka wilderness surrounded by 3 interconnected lakes with 8km of shoreline; has over 26km of hiking trails and 7,500 sq. ft. of dock and has 60 buildings.



The Outdoor Pursuits Coordinator oversees the out-tripping department, coordinating approximately 140 camper and leadership canoe trips ranging from 1 to 35 days. The role manages multiple tasks simultaneously, maintains clear communication across camp, and supports OP Directors and Senior Leadership Trainers with guidance and ongoing feedback. Responsibilities include program development, staff training, logistics management, and budget oversight, ensuring travel costs and program supply purchases align with requirements. The Coordinator responds effectively to trip emergencies, coordinates evacuations when necessary, and ensures all Pine Crest expectations and risk management procedures are followed.


In this role, you will:




Lead and oversee out-trip programs, manage logistics, and ensure smooth operations of the Outdoor Pursuits department, while facilitating safe and engaging activities for participants of all ages, including high/low ropes courses, archery, orienteering, and canoeing Collaborate with the year-round team and other seasonal supervisors to plan and deliver training for staff, preparing them for wilderness tripping, supervising Senior Leadership programs, and supporting other leadership programs Assist with research and development of new leadership and summer camp programs, and support the inventory, organization, and maintenance of all program equipment Ensure that all program-related expenses align with budget requirements, and complete administrative tasks related to purchasing accurately and on time Supervise, mentor, and guide OP Directors, OP Staff, and Leadership Trainers, supporting the preparation and delivery of seasonal staff performance appraisals while maintaining a strong presence in programs to ensure alignment with YMCA standards Monitor the safety of all activities and programs on-site and on trip throughout the duty period, responding immediately to rectify any safety concerns and completing YMCA Accident/Incident forms within 24 hours Ensure adherence to Health & Safety procedures, maintain a clean and safe camp environment, and provide support in kitchen and maintenance roles as needed Act as the primary host and facilitator for individuals and groups, ensuring group goals are met and overall satisfaction with facilities, programs, and staff Foster strong relationships with participants, members, staff, volunteers, and community partners, effectively representing the YMCA, Association, and Camp Pine Crest Perform other duties as assigned

You bring:




Completion of post-secondary courses in Outdoor Recreation or a related field is an asset, or equivalent experience Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification required for the duration of the contract Wilderness First Aid certification National Lifeguard Service (NLS) certification preferred Valid G Class Driver's License (F Class an asset, or willingness to obtain) Minimum 2 years of previous experience supervising staff in a camp or wilderness-related setting Demonstrated experience and passion for camping and outdoor education Extensive knowledge of canoe tripping, including white water and flat water Ability to communicate ideas, rules, and concepts effectively in an engaging, entertaining, and supportive manner Excellent communication skills Demonstrated ability to lead and empower an inclusive staff team Ability to lead other staff and provide feedback on an ongoing basis Ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays required Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and building a sense of belonging
