Reporting to the Technical Manager, Engineering of Keolis Grand River (KGR), the OT Infrastructure IT Engineer will be accountable for the availability and reliability of the LRT OT Infrastructure including IT Sever Rooms, SCADA signalling, communications and control systems, stops, buildings and fixed facilities IT network equipment's.
Knowledge and Skills
Degree in Engineering or related disciplines, or equivalent experience
Knowledge of inspections, preventive and reactive maintenance and quality assurance procedures of IT Network (Software's & Hardware's)
Specific knowledge and experience at least one light rail-related discipline and demonstrated understanding of all other areas including:Train control, OT Network, Cyber Security, maintenance and repair Protocol
Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems, with specific knowledge of Maximo a benefit
Intermediate proficiency in MS Excel, Word & Outlook including ability to compile data and commentary for regular reporting
Familiar with Transport Canada regulations, an asset
Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong attention to detail
Valid G class driver's licence
Required to work overtime and be available for non-scheduled emergency calls
Required to work in all weather, at night, and under pressure
Required to undertake competency unit training and obtain licences needed to conduct duties
Experience
Prior work experience in OT infrastructure or IT Networking industry
Demonstrated experience of planning and working safely in an OT operational environment
Demonstrated ability to make sound and timely business decisions to adapt within changing situations
Proven ability to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks with tight deadlines
Computer engineering experience would be an asset
Key Responsibilities
Network Design and Planning:
Conduct site surveys to assess network needs and requirements.
Design and develop network architecture, including segmentation, redundancy, and scalability.
Create network diagrams and documentation to detail infrastructure components and connectivity.
Hardware Implementation: Select and procure network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls, access points).
Oversee installation and configuration of network devices according to specifications.
Manage cabling infrastructure, including fiber optic and copper cabling.
Network Security: Implement network security protocols and policies to protect against cyber threats.
Configure firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS)
Monitor network traffic for suspicious activity
Performance Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Utilize network monitoring tools to identify performance bottlenecks and network issues
Diagnose and troubleshoot network connectivity problems
Implement corrective actions to maintain network stability and uptime
Capacity Planning and Upgrades: Analyze network usage and forecast future capacity needs
Plan and execute network upgrades or expansions to accommodate growing demands
Required Skills
Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, routing protocols like BGP, OSPF)
Proficiency in network hardware configuration (Cisco, Fortinet, etc.)
Knowledge of network security technologies (firewalls, VPNs, access control lists)
Problem-solving and Troubleshooting: Ability to analyze network issues and identify root causes
Excellent troubleshooting skills to resolve network problems effectively
Communication and Collaboration: Clear communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Ability to collaborate with other IT teams (systems administrators, security engineers)
Relevant Certification in Certified Network Associate & Certified Routing Engineering are an Asset
Monitor the performance of system assets and work with Engineering department to improve reliability through changes to maintenance practices, configuration, usage, etc.
Work with Engineering Department and OT infrastructure maintenance subcontractors to identify and plan lifecycle and rehabilitation activities
Work with Operations Department to ensure open dialogue to understand and improve on the effectiveness, reliability and safety of operational / OT infrastructure interfaces
Work with Maintenance team to understand and improve the reliability and safety of OT infrastructure interfaces
Maintenance Subcontractor Interface & Monitoring
Assist with the day-to-day interface with the OT infrastructure maintenance subcontractor and the administration of the Maintenance Services Agreement
Assist and monitor the OT infrastructure maintenance subcontractor's activities across all LRT sub-systems
Monitor and audit inspections, tests, preventive and corrective maintenance carried out by the OT infrastructure maintenance subcontractor Facilitate all work is planned and scheduled and outcomes and measurements recorded using the Maximo CMMS
Facilitate all work is carried out in accordance with PA requirements, manuals and agreed procedures
Assign, schedule, coordinate use of shared equipment as required
Monitor and control the consumption of OT infrastructure spare parts working with Commercial and Finance Department
Monitor,control and authorise any variations to subcontractor activities .
Administration
Collaborate with procurement team and subcontractors to procure the material and services required based on project terms and milestones
Write, recommend and implement maintenance procedures, work instructions and reports to support OT infrastructure maintenance activities
Prepare written reports and/or updates, ensure timely completion of maintenance records and reports
Validate and ensure relevant records are maintained in accordance with contracts
