Position Summary

General orthopedic surgeon with an interest in trauma care and arthroplasty. This is an Orillia based position however there is an expectation that the surgeon will participate in the development and provision of a regional orthopedic service. In addition to non-elective services, they will be available for general orthopedic consultation with an office in the community.

Primary Responsibilities:
\xef\x82\xa7 Provision of general orthopaedic consultations to the emergency room and inpatient units
\xef\x82\xa7 Provision of primary hip and knee arthroplasty
\xef\x82\xa7 Performing after-hours trauma cases
\xef\x82\xa7 Collaborative participation with other OSMH orthopaedic surgeons based in a published on-call schedule as required by the HOCC program or as directed by MAC
\xef\x82\xa7 Daily round on patients with a focus on length of stay targets with safe, effective, timely discharge and appropriate follow up.
\xef\x82\xa7 Efficient utilization of clinic and operating room time and resources.
\xef\x82\xa7 Answering questions from peripheral hospitals as part of our regional and critical coverage system.

Administrative and Quality:
\xef\x82\xa7 Participation in strategic planning and program development of orthopedic services
\xef\x82\xa7 Participation in ongoing quality improvement and safety activities related to orthopaedic care
\xef\x82\xa7 Participation in hospital committees as required by the credentialed staff by-laws
\xef\x82\xa7 Participation in LHIN directed committees as appropriate to the development and delivery of regional surgical services

REMUNERATION:
\xef\x82\xa7 Fee for Service
\xef\x82\xa7 HOCC for on-call

Qualifications

Education:
\xef\x82\xa7 College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) unrestricted license that allows the physician to fulfil the requirements of this position.
\xef\x82\xa7 Fellowship in orthopaedic surgery recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)
\xef\x82\xa7 Ability in primary hip and knee arthroplasty required, interest in short-stay total joint arthroplasty preferred
\xef\x82\xa7 Training in trauma is highly preferred

\xef\x82\xa7 Function effectively as a consultant, integrating all of the CanMEDS roles to provide optimal, ethical and patient-centred medical care;
\xef\x82\xa7 Establish and maintain clinical knowledge, skills and attitudes appropriate to your practice;
\xef\x82\xa7 Perform complete and appropriate assessments of patients;
\xef\x82\xa7 Use preventive and therapeutic interventions effectively;
\xef\x82\xa7 Demonstrate proficient and appropriate use of procedural skills, both diagnostic and therapeutic; Seek appropriate consultation from other health professionals, recognizing the limits of their expertise.

\xef\x82\xa7 Eligible for appointment to the credentialed staff of Orillia Soldiers\' Memorial Hospital.
