o Recruitment range: $69,052- $76,129

starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.

o Performance range: $89,791

salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases.


Job Summary

Mandate:



The Office of Student Life (OSL) provides student transition programming and support for new-to-UVic students facilitating their successful transition through pre-arrival and arrival orientation programs and events, as well as first-year experience programs and activities. OSL is also responsible for providing pro-active educational programming for students by developing and delivering programs to advance UVic's response to student mental health issues, sexualized violence awareness and prevention and in other areas that support under-represented student populations. OSL is also responsible for the investigation and resolution of non-academic misconduct allegations and provides collaborative, individualized student-centered support for students facing multi-faceted challenges and/or barriers which require coordinated responses and engagement.


Reporting to the Manager, New Student Engagement, the Orientation Team Lead is responsible for leading the planning, development and implementation of programming to support students entering UVic, including pre-arrival and arrival programs and initiatives for first year undergraduates, transfer, mature, and graduate students under the Office of Student Life.



Objectives:



The Orientation Team Lead is responsible for ensuring that orientation programs meet the goal of facilitating an engaging and supportive transition to university life and first year experience and promoting new students' sense of preparedness and sense of belonging at UVic, with a focus on improving student equity and accessibility. This includes supporting new students' capacity and learning on topics including, but not limited to, campus navigation, awareness of campus resources, and social connection.


This role works closely with campus partners to ensure a collaborative and consistent approach to welcoming new students across campus. Under the direction of the Manager, New Student Engagement, the Orientation Team Lead works collaboratively with the OSL Student Experience Team and colleagues across the Office of Student Life to ensure the delivery of high quality, timely and relevant programming for new students. The Orientation Team Lead also provides consultative support across campus regarding promising practices for engagement with first year students.


Job Requirements
This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g. leadership, community development, education, etc.) plus a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.


Competency requirements include:

Advanced analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Ability to assess student needs, research alternatives, analyze, recommend and design methods, styles, and programs to address specific and general issues related to student transitions Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple departments, organizations and individuals, including faculty, in a complex environment Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population with a range of needs and experiences Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment Proven track record achieving project goals and delivering high quality programming Demonstrated leadership, supervisory skills and the ability to inspire a team Ability to prioritize and maintain self-care, personal and social support structures, and a healthy work/life balance
Assets or Preferences:

Lived experience as a post-secondary student navigating multiple and complex barriers to university transitions Demonstrated experience with student orientation, transitions and/or student life programming in a post-secondary context Demonstrated experience delivering large scale events and programs Demonstrated experience in program coordination, implementation, assessment and administrative experience, particularly in higher education and academic success programs Demonstrated experience with curriculum or content development Understanding of structural and systemic barriers faced by historically marginalized students Demonstrated knowledge and application of accessibility and inclusion principles as they pertain to student populations and programming
