Position Summary
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Scribe join our team. The Ophthalmic Scribe will work directly with ophthalmologists to accurately and efficiently document patient encounters in real-time. This role is crucial in maintaining proper medical records, ensuring compliance, and allowing physicians to focus on patient interaction and care Strong organizational and multitasking abilities are essential.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Accurately document patient histories, examination findings, diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions during patient visits.
Assist in chart preparation and review prior to patient encounters
Enter test results, diagnostic imaging, and treatment information into the electronic medical record.
Support compliance with documentation and reporting requirements.
Operating common business equipment including but not limited to copiers, computers, and fax machines;
Maintaining organization in a fast-paced environment.
Consenting patients for medical procedures
Accurately performing patient screening/testing: History, Visual Acuity, Pupil Assessment, Color Vision, Instilling drops, etc.
Accurately performing diagnostic testing: HVF, FDT, OCT, Anterior OCT, IOL Corneal Topography, etc.
Explaining the purpose of each test and demonstrating proactive assessment;
Communicating with patients regarding follow-up care, pre and post-operative care, testing, possible symptoms, changes in appointment times etc;
Returning phone calls to patients and other healthcare professionals in a timely manner;
Support clinic flow by assisting with other administrative or clerical duties as needed.
Qualifications
:
Previous experience as a medical scribe, preferably in ophthalmology, is an asset (training provided if needed).
Knowledge of ophthalmic terminology, anatomy, and procedures is strongly preferred.
Proficiency with EMR systems and typing speed/accuracy.
Strong listening, multitasking, and organizational skills.
Attention to detail with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Professional demeanor with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Skills:
Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician preferred.
Excellent patient service skills with an aptitude to understand the patients' conditions
Strong computer skills, with previous EMR experience;
Typing speed of 40wpm or better;
Ability to quickly grasp and adapt to new programs and equipment;
Strong verbal and written communication skills;
Self-motivation to deliver high quality results;
Present a cheerful, friendly and professional image to patients and fellow employees;
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
Ability to demonstrate consistent initiative and a team attitude;
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision.
