Salary Information: Training rate is the hourly minimum wage ($17.20/hr) (2023 Rates of Pay)

Rates of pay after successful completion of training (four weeks) is:

1st - 12 months - $23.67/hr

12th - 18 months - $25.23/hr

18th - 24 months - $28.37/hr

After 24 months - Full Para Operator rate ($31.54/hr) (2023 Rates of Pay)

JOB SUMMARY



Transit Operations provides safe, reliable and courteous transit services and excellence in customer service delivery to 100 million transit customers per year, by means of conventional bus, para transit and rail operations. The Bus & Para Transit Operations team provides safe, reliable, efficient, effective, on time, courteous and cost-effective rapid transit service to a growing and diverse City of Ottawa.
You operate City of Ottawa wheelchair-accessible lift-equipped passenger vans to support a safe, reliable and quality specialized transit service for customers who cannot use regular transit service due to disability. You ensure the safety, comfort and wellness of passengers, whether boarding, on-board, or exiting the van.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



Completion of Grade 12

Minimum of 5 years of driving experience in high-density traffic

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES


Valid Ontario unrestricted "G" class driver's licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 0 demerit points accumulated required
Must complete City training and obtain Ontario unrestricted F class driver's licence (or provincial equivalent) within the timeframe determined by the employer, in order to operate a City of Ottawa para bus

KNOWLEDGE


Familiarity with the geography of the City of Ottawa and destinations around the area Knowledge of portable communications technologies, such as 2-way radio Disability awareness and sensitivity Knowledge of customer assistance procedures, van lifts, wheelchair securement equipment Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers Desirable Qualifications: Knowledge of GPS and MDT in use in transportation systems Knowledge of different types of mobility aides

Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing; Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions required French oral, reading and writing. Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check (Level 2) with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa's satisfaction.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
