Position Summary

Reporting to the Foreman, Parks Services the Operator II - Parks Inspection & Maintenance inspects, repairs, and maintains park amenities such as, but not limited to, playgrounds, the skateboard park, fire pits, toboggan hills, and the ice slide to ensure public safety.


Responsibilities

Conduct playground inspections and audits and prepare associated reports according to the most up-to-date CAN/CSA standards. Prioritize associated reports and assist with annual playground renovation and replacement plans as per CAN/CSA standards. Support the Parks Services in deciding to close inspected park amenities that may be a safety risk to the public. Maintain up-to-date records of all inspected park amenities. Order and perform operational repairs of structures and their components as per CAN/CSA standards and other related guidelines. Operate various types of municipal equipment for purposes of requested Parks Services assistance including, but not limited to, utility vehicles, skid-steers, backhoes, and/or water truck. Use hand and power tools regularly, such as drills, angle grinders, reciprocating saws, impact guns, generators, and pumps for flooded playground structures and surfaces. Determine and provide supervisors with suggestions on yearly budget increases or decreases in materials costs to maintain playgrounds and other park amenities and their components. Complete asset management of all playgrounds. Support Parks Services maintaining an accurate inventory of construction-related materials and replenishing them as required for each operational project. Provide technical support on the installation of playground equipment for internal and external stakeholders. Remain current with new and updated technology and internal and external training certifications. Support Parks programs and Winter Operations as operationally required.

Qualifications

Candidates are required to have a High School Diploma or equivalent and a Class 5 Alberta Driver's License. This position requires a minimum of three years' experience in Parks summer and winter operations. Certification in both the Theory and Practical components of the Canadian Playground Safety Institute, as well as valid First Aid certification, is mandatory. Skidsteer and Backhoe certifications along with construction or carpentry training are considered assets. This position requires working knowledge of the Parks Services assets and inventory, specialized tools and equipment, heavy-duty equipment, handheld power tools and safety manuals. A strong understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and current CAN/CSA playground safety standards is essential, along with proficiency in the relevant regulations to ensure the safe use of playground structures. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to interpret as-built drawings and factory manuals. Accuracy and attention to detail in data entry and record maintenance are also critical. This is a physically demanding role that requires working in a variety of adverse weather conditions.



This position is within the scope of C.U.P.E. Local 30, and as such, you will be required to adhere to the articles contained within the Collective Agreement. The successful candidate will be required to provide a current Driver's Abstract at the time of interview.



Hours of Work: 40 hours per week
