About the Role



This role is built for a

skilled, resourceful individual who thrives on variety

. You'll be responsible for

maintaining and improving the shop's infrastructure

, solving equipment problems, implementing technical solutions, and

driving continuous improvement

in how the business operates. This is not a management position -- this is for a

do-it-yourselfer

with a wide-ranging toolkit who's comfortable going from desk work to dirty work and back again.

Core Responsibilities



Business Development & Administration



Take ownership of complex, undefined, or cross-functional problems -- work with limited direction to define, test, and execute solutions Identify and execute internal improvement projects across departments (operations, quality, safety, IT, facilities) Support or lead high-impact initiatives such as line expansions, facility upgrades, new process implementation, or automation rollouts Collaborate with ownership to scope and pilot new capabilities, services, or business units Audit existing processes and suggest improvements to throughput, accuracy, or efficiency

Shop Maintenance & Equipment Support



Troubleshoot and repair shop systems (electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic) Maintain heat treating furnaces, pumps, motors, fans, and compressors Perform preventative maintenance and implement improvements to increase uptime

Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation



Work with industrial power systems (up to 600V), relays, sensors, and contactors Support and modify control systems (thermocouples, actuators, timers, safety interlocks) Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and ladder logic

Computers, IT & Automation



Support internal computer systems (Windows, network shares, printers, backups) Assist with ERP system enhancements, barcoding, labeling, and process software Use or learn tools like Node-RED, ESPHome, Python, or Arduino for shop-floor automation Connect sensors, switches, and equipment to internal dashboards for visibility and control

Continuous Improvement & Process Engineering



Identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, or safety risks and propose effective solutions Support efforts in standardization, automation, tracking, and digitization Work closely with owners and production staff to make things flow better and safer

Additional Technical & Project Work



Help design and implement new layouts, workstations, and safety improvements Work with vendors and staff to spec, install, or repair systems or machines Own side projects that improve how the shop operates and scales

Must-Have Qualifications



Mechanical, electrical, or mechatronics background Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Hands-on experience working with tools, systems, or machinery Intermediate to advanced computer skills (software, networking, admin tasks) Willingness to dig into new tools, learn fast, and figure things out

Nice-to-Haves (Asset, Not Required)



PLC or automation experience (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, ESPHome, Node-RED, etc.) Experience with ERP systems Fabrication, welding, or machining experience Instrumentation, sensors, or control system background CAD or layout planning knowledge Knowledge of furnace systems, heat treating, or industrial processing
