BWXT Medical Inc. is seeking a Operations Support Manager at our production facility in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Job Purpose:

Manages one or more Operations support processes or teams, within the BWXT Medical Ltd. Kanata site and/or Vancouver site. Accountable for the effective forecasting, planning, resourcing, scheduling and execution of support processes to ensure the production of quality products that meet internal specifications as well as regulatory, contractual and customer requirements.

Job Structure and Communications:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Operations Support , is responsible for the operation of one or more support processes for BWXT Medical Ltd.

  • Responsible to coordinate and manage staff, work with customers, suppliers and employees across all levels of the organization to ensure ongoing reliable supply of Medical Isotope products.
  • Responsible to manage costs and expenses through process efficiencies to meet customer requirements and strategic objectives.
Accountabilities:
  • Directs the safe efficient, effective and economic operation of one or more Operations cost centers to meet and where possible exceed the divisional goals regarding customer service.
  • Accountable for manufacturing preparations to support consistent and reliable product processes.
  • Accountable for one or more support processes cost centers and budget control.
  • Responsible for managing a group of staff as well as overseeing their departments operations.
  • Responsible for delegating tasks and ensuring overall team objectives are understood and met.
  • Responsible for executing on quality system actions according to BWXT policies.
  • Responsible and accountable for leading projects that directly impact their department, which includes estimation, budget management, resource management and implementation.
  • Interfaces with suppliers of goods and services to ensure that goods are received on time to support planned manufacturing and/or support activities.
  • Liaises with other departmental managers or supervisors to ensure successful coordination of scheduled activities.
  • Assists and may substitute for Production Manager in the performance of their managerial activities.
  • Initiates and implements quality improvements, and cost control/reduction programs aimed at reduced waste and improved profitability.
  • Initiates and implements programs aimed at improved efficiencies.
  • Initiates, supports and implements continuous improvement initiatives that enhance process reliability
and improve responsiveness to customer requirements.
  • Develops and direct a supporting organization. Responsible for the implementation of the training program in responsible area.
  • Ensures that all activities within a cost center comply with divisional objectives, regulatory, health and safety and requirements.
  • Ensures that all activities within a cost center comply with quality systems, and regulatory requirements in terms of meeting customer expectations.
  • Prepares short- and long-term budget objectives and reports on progress towards meeting approved objectives. Initiates corrective actions to minimize the negative effects of variances and maximize achievable profits.
  • Participates as a member of the Operations management team to achieve approved business objectives.
  • Ensures the maintenance of facilities and equipment to maintain safe and cost-effective operating conditions.
  • Performs as a technical resource and/or Emergency Response Manager within the scope of the Emergency Response Plan.
Recommedations and Decisions:
  • Decisions can have a short medium and long-term effect. Major customer accounts can be lost through inaction or poor decisions with little or no opportunity for corrective action.
  • Decisions must be made on a short time scale, often within hours and can seriously affectdelivery of products and impact profits and customer relations.
  • When sudden adjustments are required, the incumbent must independently decide upon a course of action that will produce the best possible results.
  • Within departmental guidelines, assigns staff priorities and resources and makes recommendations regarding projects, financial estimates, resources, staff, equipment, processes etc.
Considerations will include:
  • Re-deployment of resources, staff, equipment etc.
  • Re-scheduling of support processes.
  • Raw material procurement (i.e., irradiation cycles) or utilization (i.e., re-processing of products).
  • Communications with other affected departments (i.e. Global Logistics, Commercial Operations)
  • Leadership and strategic planning can affect corporate objectives.
Knowledge and Experience:

Normally a university undergraduate degree in an appropriate discipline (i.e. Life Sciences) with 3-5 years of related experience including experience in supervising personnel. Ideally, the incumbent will have had previous experience within an Operations environment manufacturing pharmaceuticals, devices, or health care products.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) is essential.
  • Must have strong personal qualities of leadership, demonstrate initiative and set appropriate standards of performance to ensure that staff is motivated to meet objectives.
  • Must have effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have good working knowledge of radiation physics.
  • Must have intimate working knowledge of both radiation and contamination problems and the proper and effective techniques for dealing with them.
  • Must have a good basic understanding of financial planning.
  • Must be able to cope with job stress and pressure.
  • Must be able to analyze situations and make decisions often with minimal information and little time for optimization or corrective action.
  • Must be resourceful, creative, and possess superior problem-solving skills.
  • Must have good general knowledge of collective agreements and company policies and procedures.
