Our District Highway Operations Division plays a critical role in managing snow and ice control services, road maintenance and repair services throughout the province.This is your next opportunity to directly support the maintenance of Highway Operations in the Eastern District of the Province through providing technical advice and guidance, managing and motivating your crew, ensuring quality of work, and helping to achieve the work priorities of your assigned area.About Our OpportunityAs the Operations Supervisor, you will supervise and coordinate the safe and effective day-to-day highway construction maintenance operations including staff supervision and performance, and the repair and rehabilitation of the road network and its elements.Primary AccountabilitiesUsing your expertise and experience, you will identify, plan, and control Department maintenance, repair, restoration, and construction, along with snow and ice activities. You will schedule staff and equipment, all the while ensuring the overall geographical area you are responsible for is properly serviced. Your technical advice will be utilized to support management and aid in establishing priorities and budgets for your area. You are responsible to administer human resource and departmental policies, procedures and collective agreements, and oversee and monitor the planning process by ensuring Department plans, specifications and acts and regulations are adhered to.Qualifications and ExperienceHigh school completion plus a two (2) year technical diploma in Construction Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or University level pre-engineering diploma, and six (6) years of related experience in road construction and maintenance is required. You must be a member in good standing with TechNova, or, eligible to become a member in good standing.Experience in cost estimation, financial management, budgeting and expenditure control and technical accomplishment, and financial reporting is necessary. You have the ability to understand and administer acts, regulations, policies and procedures, collective agreements, and specifications containing technical elements, and possess a working knowledge of the capabilities of heavy equipment. Proficiency in in a computerized environment is necessary including knowledge in spreadsheet software and creation, word processing, and email applications.You are a motivational leader with strong supervisory skills; providing input to the performance management and training needs of your crew. You are a problem solver and innovator who generates, promotes and implements new ideas, and resolves concerns. You adhere to and promote a safe, healthy and engaged work culture where innovation is encouraged. You have proven and professional communication skills, both oral and written, for collaborating with Department personnel, other government agencies, consultants, contractors and members of the public. You have well-developed planning and organizational skills, coupled with the ability to multi-task and adapt in this fast-paced environment with competing priorities and strict deadlines. Consistently, you maintain a professional and courteous disposition and hold a high standard for client and customer service.Knowledge of snow and ice removal operations along with the operations and maintenance of heavy equipment is desirable. Previous experience administering collective agreements would be considered assets. Travel is often in excess of your scheduled hours and under extreme weather conditions. You may be on 24-hour call during the various seasons, including snow and ice control season, on a rotating basis and will be subject to shift work during those periods. Inspection of buildings, structures, and Right-of-Ways often requires working in precarious positions or environments.What We Offer
