Our organization

The National Diabetes Trust is Canada's largest charitable clothing and small household goods collection service. With more than 5,000 donation bins and an active home pick-up service in communities across Canada (excluding Quebec), we collect unwanted, gently used clothing and household items, using them to raise much-needed funds for Diabetes Canada.



Each year, the program diverts more than 100 million pounds of clothing and household items from landfill sites across Canada. About the Operations Supervisor/Driver Role

Reporting to the Vancouver Island Operations Manager, the hybrid Operations Supervisor/Driver assists in day-to-day operations by managing a team of dedicated Drivers and ensuring the efficient collection of donated goods through Declutter, the door-to-door, and donation box collection of used clothing and household items.

Hours of Work:

The role includes a combination of Operations Supervisor and Driver duties, scheduled for up to 40 hours per week according to business and staffing requirements.

Compensation

$33/hour for supervisor duties. $25/hour for driving.

Highlights of the role include:



Supervise, coach, motivate, and performance manage drivers, in consultation with the Operations Manager and Human Resource Departments, always maintaining confidentiality Recruit and train drivers as directed by the Operations Manager As a driver, complete all pickups; include drop boxes, household, and other special pickups Conduct 'pre' and 'post' trip inspections Complete up to 120 pickups daily, load and unload up to 50 lbs. per single load Ensure required merchandise is delivered to all Value Village Stores as per the delivery schedule. Assist the Operations Manager in planning and implementing innovative, effective methods to meet all contractual obligations Maintain attendance records, coordinate staffing schedules, and follow up with Operations Manager Drive in a safe, courteous, and defensive manner when operating company trucks Ensure payroll records are accurate and sent to the National Payroll Department on a timely basis Produce and maintain excellent and accurate records Respond and resolve customer concerns, prepare invoices, internal transfers, reconcile billing summaries, accurately track inventory levels, monitor staff productivity, monitor and update schedules for the servicing of drop boxes and work assignments, oversee the database, accurately complete all statistical reports, and oversee labor budget Coordination of drivers and trucks: monitor GPS, complete route audits, assist with route and/or truck problems, advise drivers of special pickups and cancellations, coordinate fleet maintenance, and function as a liaison between the drivers, Value Village, and Penske personnel Ensure effective transition between shifts and supervise daily workflow. Collaborate with Operations Manager and Business Operations staff to develop a plan to achieve local goals and assist in the development of area-marketing strategies for Business Operations Support the Operations Manager to ensure the promotion of the Business Operations through the placement of drop boxes, attended stations, donation depots, media, targeted marketing initiatives, special events, Car Heaven, Diabetes Recycle Ink, etc. Additional duties as required, ensuring the effective function of Operations

About You

The selected candidate for this Operations Supervisor role will meet the following minimum requirements:

University Degree or College Diploma in Business or equivalent relevant experience 2+ years of experience in a multi-disciplinary environment with a scheduling component Must be able to drive a truck, as shown providing a valid Class 5 license and a clean driver's abstract Able to drive 16-20-foot-long, 3-ton, automatic, cube truck Ability to provide direction, motivation, training, and support to staff members Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds Excellent organizational skills with great attention to detail Superior customer service skills Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, and telephone Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Word and Excel Knowledge of common office equipment, systems, and technologies Able to work in a busy, multi tasked environment Knowledge of diabetes an asset Second language is an asset Flexible availability. Available to work weekends; schedule can vary between 7am-7pm
