Job Summary



This position supervises assigned staff engaged in the construction, maintenance and operation of Saskatoon Light & Power (SL&P) facilities while overseeing the optimization of resource, material and equipment requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities


Manages assigned staff; hires, assigns work schedules, assesses staffing needs, identifies and pursues other resources if necessary. Conducts performance management and, when required, disciplinary action. Develops and maintains work schedules for construction and maintenance programs. Develops and maintains a productivity measurement system. Ensures that work performed meets documented level of service standards, operational procedures and occupational health and safety procedures. Investigates customer requests, customer complaints and system damage reports and takes appropriate action as required. Prepares recommendations for improvements or upgrades to related programs, systems, resources and methods. Assists with safety and technical training, including apprenticeships, of SL&P staff. Maintains records of work-site inspections and maintenance. Participates in the selection, implementation and utilization of construction, maintenance and operation software and systems. Prepares verbal and written reports as required. Performs standby duties on a rotational basis. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Education, Training and Experience Requirements


Grade 12 education. Possession of one of the following:
+ Saskatchewan Journeymen Electrician Certificate;
+ Saskatchewan Journeymen Power Line Technician Certificate;
+ Graduation from a two-year post secondary electrical engineering technology program.
Four to six years' trades experience at an electric utility. Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's License and a current driver's abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.



Knowledge, Abilities and Skills


Considerable knowledge of principles and practices related to construction, maintenance and operation of an electrical distribution system. Ability to plan, direct, coordinate, monitor, motivate and evaluate the work of assigned staff. Ability to work effectively in emergency situations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including the ability to prepare and present technical reports. Skill in the use of a personal computer or other similar device.

Weekly Hours:

36.67

Salary Range:

$86,211.84 to $101,175.60 CAD

per annum

(2023 rates). A $5.30 per hour supplement will also apply.
