This position works in Water - Operations, Mtce. & Construction. This is semi-skilled manual maintenance and construction work in performing routine infrastructure maintenance tasks. An incumbent completes assigned service requests and routine maintenance work, as assigned by a Foreman; operates a city vehicle in transporting employees, materials and equipment to job sites; and prepares and maintains simple records and work reports. An incumbent exercises some independence of action and judgment in performing assigned work within defined operating limits, methods and procedures. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Foreman who assigns work orally or in writing, and checks work in progress and upon completion. Work is evaluated in terms of quality of work, and adherence to established work and safety standards. Performs related work as required.


Qualifications include up to high school graduation, supplemented by sound experience in general construction and maintenance work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the rules of safe operation and precautions to be taken in the operation of light to medium weight vehicles and attached or auxiliary equipment; knowledge of the practices, methods, tools, materials, equipment and safety precautions used in general construction and maintenance work. Ability to operate light or medium sized vehicles safely and efficiently under difficult driving conditions, and to perform minor servicing tasks on same. Sufficient strength and manual agility to perform manual work. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude. A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
