Purpose:



York University's School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD) is one of North America's premier educational and research institutions for the visual, performing and digital arts. AMPD is a destination for top artistic talent because we provide a dynamic space for students to push the boundaries of disciplinary rigour, create new cultural propositions, engage the integration of emerging technologies and forms of practice within the extensive scholarly resources of one of Canada's largest research universities.Under the direction of Executive Officer, the Operations Manager is accountable for the effective management of staff and provision of support services across a defined group of Departments in the School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design. Services include support for financial, human resources, facilities and health and safety activities. Operations Manager works with the Chair of the assigned Departments, Executive Officer, and the Dean's Office to provide leadership and support in developing and implementing strategies for the operational aspect of academic program delivery.



Education:



Post-secondary degree/diploma with some courses in business, finance or human resources required.



Experience:



3-5 years progressive experience in management of staff in unionized environment, managing budgets. planning and analysis. policy development. Experience working in an educational institution is an asset. Experience managing within the fine arts industry preferred.



Skills:



Thorough knowledge of current health and safety standards and principles and their practical applications in a teaching environment. leadership skills. demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team. demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills including flexibility, discretion, diplomacy, tact, judgement. excellent organizational and management skills. proven ability to exercise good judgement and initiative. excellent oral and written communication skills. knowledge of purchasing and budgeting and contract processes.

Please note: This position requires the candidate to produce a verification of degree(s), credential(s) or equivalencies from accredited institutions and/or international equivalents at the time of interview.The position may be required to split time working in the three departments and associated workspaces. Most of the responsibilities will be conducted in a normal office environment.





Compensation:



York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award. Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.Visit the CPM Compensation page on the HR Website to find out more about York's CPM Compensation Program.
